The Swisher Lab has an opportunity for a Research Scientist/Engineer 1 (NE S UAW RSE). The Swisher Lab is an ovarian cancer research lab within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Washington. We are a collaborative lab that works with multiple labs and institutions in the UW area as well as worldwide with the prime objective of studying the genetics of ovarian cancer. This Research Scientist, under the supervision of the Research Scientist Engineer 4 will be trained to conduct research and evaluate the molecular genetics of ovarian cancer.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

DNA Analysis: 65%

Process and organize specimens; extract and purify nucleic acids from blood and tissue.

Perform a variety of assays to identify molecular changes in ovarian cancer, such as PCR, nucleic acid purification, methylation assays, and other molecular protocols.

Utilize droplet digital PCR to analyze methylation patterns in clinical and experimental cases.

Tissue Bank Maintenance: 10%

Assist with maintaining and collecting for Tissue biorepository.

Frozen tissue sectioning, staining (H&E, IHC) and laser-capture microdissection.

Laboratory Maintenance: 25%

Assist in day-to-day laboratory upkeep by maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies.

Enter data and maintain lab databases.

Analyze data results and develop rational explanations.

Troubleshoot difficulties with assays.

Perform related duties as required.

Keep careful and accurate laboratory records.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree in a related field and one year of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education/experience.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree in a biological science or equivalent.

Up to one year of laboratory experience.

Experience in lab-based work.

Facility with Microsoft Teams.

Experience with Microsoft office suite.
