To strengthen our Gene Therapy Vector Core Team, based in our Boston Office, in Bedford MA, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: Research Scientist - Gene Therapy Analytical Development.
As a Research Scientist you will assist in the area of biophysical characterization and assay development for biologics. This individual will support multiple therapeutic gene therapy programs by developing biophysical analytical methods for AAV vectors to assist with process development activities and preclinical studies.
You will contribute by:
Serving as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for biophysical characterization methods to support analytical ultracentrifuge (AUC) and chromatography testing across multiple programs within UCB Gene Therapy Vector Core.
Coordinating testing externally through CROs and CDMOs, as needed, and assist with qualification and method transfer.
Building in-house AUC testing capability including method development, routine testing and qualification.
Supporting routine analytical testing for vector biology and discovery, and process development teams.
Authoring and reviewing methods, SOPs, method development reports and routine testing data.
Standardizing and improving the electronic data capture and reporting for multiple laboratory test methods.
Improving standard testing methods to allow for high throughput or more accurate quantification.
Collaborating with upstream, downstream and vector biology teams on cross-functional platform development projects.
Collaborating with portfolio projects as Bioprocess Representative within core project teams.
Interested? For this position you'll need the following education, experience and skills:
PhD/MSc/BSc in Biomedical Engineering, Analytical Chemistry or Biochemistry with 1+ years' hands-on experience with biophysical analytical characterization (AUC, CE, HPLC, etc.) of AAVs.
Hands-on experience in the independent design, development, optimization and prosecution of a range of chromatographic assays; including experience in data handling and analysis.
Ability to manage priorities and engage/communicate in a multidisciplinary environment.
PhD with 6+ years hands-on AUC analysis experience from method development, trouble shooting and qualification.
Experience with AUC method and data analysis using SEDFIT or UltraScan software to characterize AAV vectors.
Knowledge of process development and formulation development for AAV or viral vector production.
Knowledge of phase appropriate technical considerations around biophysical characterization for AAV products.
