Job Description and Duties

As a Research Scientist Supervisor you will have the opportunity to:
Organize, supervise, and direct a multi-disciplinary scientific staff of Research Scientists, Laboratory Assistants and Visiting Scholars
Manage laboratory operations (quality assurance reviews, data interpretation, budgets, procurement, technology innovations, etc.)
Plan, organize, direct and provide managerial review of the work performed by staff in the Human and Environmental Monitoring Section (HEMS)
Provide regular and timely written performance appraisals to staff
Counsel staff and initiates disciplinary actions as necessary
Recruit, hire, train, develop, and provide leadership to staff
Ensure equal opportunity in hiring, employee development and promotion
Desirable Qualifications We Look For:
Ability to organize, supervise, and manage a multidisciplinary scientific staff of research scientists, laboratory assistants and visiting scholars, as well as laboratory operations (quality control, data interpretation, budget, purchasing, technological innovation, etc
Ability to independently plan, design, and manage research studies related to environmental chemicals of concern (e.g., dioxins, PCBs, pesticides, PFAS, flame retardants, other persistent chemicals) in environmental and biological samples using state-of-the-art and/or new laboratory techniques (e.g., GC-/LC-HRMS, GC-/LC-MSMS, XRF, ion chromatography, any screening instrument) to improve DTSC decision making
