Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in Biology or closely related field. Three (3) years of full-time research experience in biomedical/cancer research, to include at least one (1) year of research experience following attainment of a Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent). Experience in testing biologics in 3D spheroids/organoids, replicating triplicate experiments. Experience with maintaining documentation of experiments in lab notebooks.
Brief Description of Duties:
Stony Brook University has a Research Scientist in the department of Physiology and Biophysics. The incumbent will develop, design and run research experiments and ensure that all research protocols follow the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. The Research Scientist will be responsible for the operations of the lab. A strong background in cell signaling, molecular and cellular biology techniques and preclinical cancer mouse models preferred.
Develop, Design and Perform biomedical experiments, including molecular biology work, cell and tissue culture, harvesting lab animal tissues for analyses, analyses of human and animal specimens, isolate patient-derived cells from tumors, test drugs/antibodies using 3D organoids/spheroids using an array of cell based assays, tail vein injections, mouse survival studies and expertise with patient derived xenografts and mouse models for cancer research.
Oversee animal colonies, execute and manage husbandry procedures
Document and analyze research data, keep meticulous documentation of all experiments in lab notebooks, contribute to scientific analysis and interpretation of projects, perform qualitative, quantitative and statistical analysis of research data. Assist with IRB, IACUC and IBC regulatory requirements.
Responsible for the overall management of the lab, may supervise postdoctoral associate and research support positions. Will provide training on specific specialized skills and research methods, and is responsible for the
operation of the lab.
Prepare manuscripts for publications in peer reviewed and/or scientific
Prepare grant proposals; apply for grants, to include writing proposals for the research projects, identifying funding sources, and training opportunities.
Other duties as assigned.
The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding.
