Our team is seeking a highly motivated Scientist to lead cell-based assay research and development for insect control discovery. The position will be embedded in the Integrated Assay Systems group consisting of diverse expertise in cell biology, molecular biology, protein chemistry, entomology, automation and statistics/data science. Ideal candidate should be a self-starter and strategic thinker, comfortable in a fast-paced environment, able to manage multiple priorities, efficient in communicating with all levels and most importantly player-coach with a willingness to participate in the hands-on execution of projects.

  • Responsible for developing cell-based assays for application that supports insect control discovery

  • Serve as a functional area expert with in-depth technical knowledge of the development, optimization, and execution of in vitro assays for compound screening

  • Provide strategy, direction and oversee execution within cross-functional teams and external collaborations

  • Be up to date with and explore new cell-based screening technologies to drive assay development forward

  • Standardize, author and review operation protocols and screening results.

  • Contribute to Corteva Intellectual Properties and publish scientific findings in peer-reviewed journals


Essential Skills

  • Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or similar fields with a minimum of 5+ years of post-PhD research experience in academia or industry setting

  • Significant hands-on cell biology experience with both cultured and primary cells

  • Experience with primary cell line transformation

  • Familiarity with standard cell proliferation, viability and differentiation assays

  • Experience with preparative and analytical flow cytometry

  • Direct experience working with cell-based assay automation a strong plus

  • Direct experience working with insecticidal protein production and activation a strong plus

  • Experience with protein or tag detection with fusion fluorescent protein or antibody

  • Familiarity with imaging and image processing of stained and live cells

  • Proficiency in DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, and a variety of nucleic acid protocols

  • Experience organizing, analyzing, and interpreting large volumes of data

  • Excellent organization skills; communication in succinct styles and clear terms

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple groups

  • Familiarity with NGS sequencing and able to work with genomics expert to interpret results

  • Working knowledge of statistics and bioinformatics tools

  • Experience with Phage display and protein directed evolution a strong plus

The Functional Cell Sciences group within the SIBs Core Technologies team is seeking a candidate who can integrate biotechnology with plant breeding to support our ongoing discovery research efforts. Our group boldly innovates to create strategically-aligned solutions for next-generation plant breeding technologies, specifically by translating genomic knowledge into novel breeding applications. Strong molecular biology and biochemistry skills including PCR methods, cloning expertise, gene editing expertise, co-immunoprecipitation, yeast two hybrid screening, and plant transformation expertise are required. Ability to perform aspects of plant tissue culture methods will be required. Use of sequence analysis software and bioinformatics tools will be required. Experience with genomics, proteomics, and or epigenomic profiling is highly favorable. Experience with gene network analysis and or the regulation of gene network pathways is highly favorable.
