Our Statistics and Privacy team focuses on establishing step-change improvements to advance our long-term business growth. The team's expertise spans many domains including statistics, machine learning, cryptography and neuroscience.

We develop methodologies, design and prototype solutions, and partner with our engineering colleagues to launch these solutions such that millions of advertisers can benefit. Examples include internal and external experimentation platforms, ads delivery optimization for efficient causal outcomes, and the application of privacy enhancing technologies across our ads product stack. We seek a Research Scientists - both new PhD graduates and industry-experience leaders - to identify new opportunities and build scientifically rigorous systems that enable marketers to improve the efficiency of their advertising spend.

Our team works across areas ranging from internal and external experimentation systems to our ads delivery optimization. We also invest towards privacy-preserving technologies for measurement and optimization that enhance technological guarantees for consumer privacy. In additional to leveraging scientific expertise to develop new products, team members are expected to build consensus across product, engineering and business stakeholders as to the strategic merit of our initiatives.

Research Scientist- Statistics and Privacy (R&D) Responsibilities

  • Identify specific, high-impact opportunities to build new and improve existing advertising and commerce solutions

Design and prototype new algorithms, optimization methods, and system architectures

Assess the validity and rigor of new approaches, establishing scalable validation frameworks for ongoing evaluation

Build cross-functional relationships with AI, Engineering, Product and Analytics teams to shape long-term roadmaps with a balance of scientific rigor and strategic considerations

Learn new tools, systems and languages quickly as required by the particular project you are working on

Develop patent applications, white papers, conference presentations, and publications that are broadly appealing and accessible beyond a core scientific audience

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in statistics, computer science, physics, quantitative social science, or a related quantitative field, or MS/MA degree with 4+ years of relevant experience in data science or research science

Expertise in one of the following areas: causal inference and experimentation platforms, privacy preserving machine learning, applied cryptography and privacy enhancing technologies, or modern machine learning techniques and their mathematical underpinning

Proficiency designing and implementing analytical and/or algorithmic solutions, tailored to particular business needs and tested on large data sets

Proficiency in common scripting and query languages

Experience with communicating analysis and establishing confidence among audiences who do not share your disciplinary background or training

Experience to track record of innovation

Public Policy Associate Research Manager, Data For Good Responsibilities * Help Facebook Data for Good build out its Maps for Good vertical for Disease Prevention Maps, Disaster Maps, and other new map types Support the distribution and sharing of Facebook Data for Good publicly available tools, including its high resolution population density maps Collaborate internally with the Data for Good Policy Team, Core Data Science and Spatial Computing teams to build out new maps products Build meaningful relationships with non-profit and university counterparts to deliver valuable insights to communities in need during times of crisis Build meaningful relationships with policy counterparts by working collaboratively with Data for Good partners to share insights that are important during public health emergencies and natural disasters Minimum Qualifications * 3+ years of experience doing quantitative analysis (1+ years with advanced degree and Public Policy background) BA/BS in technical or applied sciences field Experience with mapping products such as qGIS and others Understanding of reporting and statistical analysis Experience initiating and driving projects to completion with minimal guidance Experience communicating the results of analyses in a clear and effective manner Preferred Qualifications * Experience manipulating large data sets with SQL, R, Python and other similar tools Facebook's mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.
