Description:Lockheed Martin (LM) Space Systems Company (SSC) is seeking a Cognitive Sensing Research Scientist to join the Cognitive Sensing Research Group (CSRG). The CSRG supports contract and internal research and development in the areas of statistical signal processing, detection and estimation, information theory, machine learning, and adaptive decision and control with application in cognitive Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), Signal Intelligence (SIGINT), Communications, and Electronic Warfare (EW). The CSRG is part of the LM Space Systems Advanced Technology Center (ATC) and focuses on development of advanced research concepts, products and systems. Team members support end-to-end research projects typically comprising concept development, customer program shaping, requirements development, modeling/simulation, system design, algorithm development, prototype development, demonstration, and transition of technology to relevant LM lines-of-business.
Project teams are typically small (3-5 engineers) and efforts often include collaboration with other LM business area laboratories and universities. The position is based out of the LM SSC campus in Sunnyvale, CA.
Masters Degree from an accredited college in a related discipline with 12 years of professional experience, or equivalent experience/combined education, or 9 years of professional experience with a related PhD.
Experience with mathematical modeling tools and languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python, etc.)
Strong technical background in RF signal processing, systems engineering, and algorithm development
Experience in leading small, R&D project teams from concept development through prototype demonstration
Strong communication/presentation skills, and ability to interact directly with customers
Eligible for government security clearance
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Math, or similar field
Experience with commercial and/or military communication, radar, SIGINT, or EW systems, technologies, and programs
C/C++ software development experience
Experience/expertise developing algorithms and/or systems designed for RF signal detection, characterization, geolocation, signal estimation, and modulation / demodulation
Experience working with emerging class of machine learning algorithms, development frameworks, and applications
Experience/expertise in design and execution of laboratory and field demonstrations and performance testing
Experience supporting business development activities including development of white papers and technical proposals
