Job Description and Requirements:
The Animal Nutrition Research group of Archer Daniels Midland Company is seeking a Research Scientist to serve as a Monogastric Nutrition Scientist with focus on nutrition physiology, metabolism, and health and wellness. This position will be responsible for leading the ideation, development, and execution of ADM's innovation and applied research projects. The successful candidate will develop a deep understanding of feed ingredients and feed additives and how they affect physiology and metabolism.

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Mine technology opportunities from published literature and external sources.

  • Design and coordinate research trials to determine value of existing and new ADM ingredients and feed additives

  • Provide advice on commodity processing and feed manufacturing to enable new product development

  • Manage research projects to meet milestones and objectives within budget

  • Provide nutritional recommendations and fundamental expertise to internal and external customers

  • Support product development and commercialization of new technologies as requested, specifically supporting Regulatory and Quality Control

  • Technical writing, ability to publish in peer reviewed journals and to orally communicate results to other scientists and non- technical staff is required

  • Prepare invention disclosures and secure intellectual property based upon scientific discovery

  • Make recommendations to management concerning research investments and infrastructure

  • Develop relationships with academic, industry, and government agencies

  • Monitor and report on scientific trends, industry trends, and competitive landscape

Main function: Analytical Chemist position requires a scientist with a strong practical knowledge of analytical chemistry and instrumental analysis. Experience in a variety of analytical chemistry techniques, such as HPLC, GC, ICP, ICP-MS, GC/MS, LC/MS, vibrational spectroscopy, laboratory robotics and / or wet chemistry analyses may be part of the job. The purpose of this position is to provide expertise and capability in an analytical capacity to internal and external ADM customers across all the divisions of ADM. Key skills & proficiencies: BS or higher degree in Analytical Chemistry, or closely related fields! Minimum of 5 years of Analytical Chemistry experience in the analysis of food, natural products, organic synthesis or fermentation systems! Proven strong knowledge of analytical chemistry in several areas such as liquid chromatography, ion chromatography, gas chromatography and/or spectroscopy. Good written and oral communication skills. Operational expertise in the use of instrument software Ability to work independently and interact well with people. Ability to troubleshoot, identify root cause and implement corrective action. People skills, great teammate and customer focus Problem diagnosis skills and independent problem solver Description of work performed: Operate analytical instruments including LC, LC/MS, Ion chromatographs, GC, and GC/MS to include operational troubleshooting, preparing eluents, handling samples, data analysis using instrument controlling software from different vendors. Assist in reporting results, carrying out diagnostic investigation of data deviation, presenting composite results to internal customers. Perform all duties related to sample analysis including glassware handling, mobile phase and sample preparation, instrument maintenance, and maintaining a clean and organized workplace. Maintain high quality records. Help contribute to problem solving. Knowledge & skills: Project Management Use technical knowledge to assist internal customers to identify and deliver analytical project requirements Prioritize routine project and sample flow through the lab Document, coordinate and report all data during participation in multiple ongoing projects. Analytical Testing Develop new methods as required Conduct analytical testing associated with projects Independently execute technical projects Deliver accurate, on-time data to internal and external customers Pursue technologies, instrumentation and knowledge to satisfy method development requests Provide technical advice and expertise to cross-functional teams Respond quickly to urgent requests Maintain and ensure instrumentation are in peak operating condition.
