Leidos's Military & Veterans Health Solutions Group is currently looking for a Research Scientist in Molecular Diagnostics to support's biological research in support of the Biological Defense Research Directorate (BDRD) at the Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC) in Frederick, MD. The BDRD within NMRC facilitates biological research for the rapid detection of infectious diseases of global importance and the enhancement of global disease surveillance for early pathogen detection and response.

The ideal candidate shall:

  • Possess a practical knowledge of basic and applied research, including experimental design and methods, and must demonstrate the ability to perform original and competent research.

  • Support senior staff in management of budgets, report writing, training scientific, technical and support staff, and carrying out research projects.

  • Serve as subject matter expert in methods for the detection of biological weapons and must have knowledge and experience in conducting laboratory and field-based testing of unknown samples, to include a deep understanding of Federal and DoD bio-surveillance and bio-threat agent detection programs.

  • Maintain and support an ISO Guide 34 Quality Management System with demonstrated hands-on experience working with biological select agents and toxins (BSAT) in Biosafety Level (BSL)-2 and BSL-3 laboratories.



  • Candidates must have completed a PhD from an accredited US university, or international university of equivalent standard, in a biological science field.

  • Candidates must have at least 10 years of post-doctoral experience in molecular biology in the field of biodefense with a focus on assay development, pyrosequencing, bioinformatics and platform test and evaluation.

  • The candidate must have an active TOP SECRET classification access level.

  • Must be able to pass all criteria for enrollment in a Biological Personnel Reliability Program (BPRP), to include random drug screening.

  • Due to Federal contract requirements, US citizenship is required.

Work Location:

  • Work is to be primarily performed on a government installation. The normal work week is Monday through Friday 0800 to 1630.

  • Candidates may be required to travel nationally and internationally for moderate periods of time to potentially austere environments.
