Reality Labs (RL) teams are looking for exceptional Research interns to help us create next generation interaction technologies for virtual and augmented reality. Our interns will have an opportunity in investigating novel methods in 3D scene inference, understanding, representation, or display/rendering. The main objective of the internship is to push for a publication, but bonus points if your algorithm can function stably and be integrated in our systems.
Research Scientist Intern, Computer Vision/Deep Learning (PhD) Responsibilities
Literature study on the scientific state of the art for the given problem
Collaboration with other researchers from the assigned team and related teams
Development of algorithms to improve on the scientific state of the art for the given problem
Implementation of those algorithms in code and integration in our production systems
Design and execution of experiments suited to analyze the algorithm's effectiveness
Regular communication of the research agenda, progress, and results, and writing a paper for publication.
Minimum Qualifications
Currently has, or are in the process of obtaining a PhD degree in the field of computer vision (or machine learning with a strong computer vision focus)
Experience in one or more of the following research fields such as Visual scene modeling, Neural scene representations (like NeRFs), 3D mapping & localization, scene/semantic understanding, structure from motion, multi-view geometry, SLAM, 3D reconstruction Non-Visual localization / SLAM, sensor data fusion, inertial sensors understanding
1+ year experience with Python, PyTorch and/or C++.
Interpersonal experience cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.
Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Preferred Qualifications
Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading journals (TPAMI, IJCV, etc.) or computer vision conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, ICLR or similar.
Experience in applying machine learning / deep learning in the multi-view geometry field such as e.g. structure from motion, visual localization, SLAM, stereo, depth estimation, object segmentation, neural radiance fields
Demonstrated software engineer experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. GitHub).
Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op

About Meta
Meta builds technologies that help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses. When Facebook launched in 2004, it changed the way people connect. Apps like Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp further empowered billions around the world. Now, Meta is moving beyond 2D screens toward immersive experiences like augmented and virtual reality to help build the next evolution in social technology. People who choose to build their careers by building with us at Meta help shape a future that will take us beyond what digital connection makes possible today-beyond the constraints of screens, the limits of distance, and even the rules of physics.
Meta is committed to providing reasonable support (called accommodations) in our recruiting processes for candidates with disabilities, long term conditions, mental health conditions or sincerely held religious beliefs, or who are neurodivergent or require pregnancy-related support.
