Experience in both theoretical and experimental Ultrasonic Testing (UT) research, with significant expertise in the former.
Experience in UT wave theory and modeling.
Experience in general wave propagation phenomena and phenomena specific to elastic wave propagation.
Experience formulating wave propagation problems and implementing solutions analytically and/or numerically.
Experience with experimental UT measurements.
Experience with lab immersion, contact UT and phased array UT.
Prior experience with industry UT practices.
Job Description:
Summary
The Center for Nondestructive Evaluation (CNDE) at Iowa State University is seeking candidates for a Research Scientist II responsible for the specific area of research (modeling and experimental) in the area of Ultrasonic Testing (UT). Candidates must have good working knowledge of elastodynamic field theory, and experience in programming computational solutions for prediction of UT measurement responses.
The CNDE teams with industrial and government sponsors who help guide the research at CNDE and share the results. CNDE has a long history of working with industry to provide cost-effective tools and solutions, which address relevant problems for a variety of industrial sectors and applications.
Examples of Duties
Develop, design and conduct one or more complex research projects, modeling, simulations and experiments in line with plan, review progress and evaluate results.
Formulate research methods and suggest options for improving quality, identify potential problems, recommend and implement solutions, and collaborate in the development of new techniques.
Assist with publications and writing or developing grant proposals.
Train and mentor others in Ultrasonic Testing modeling and simulations.
Train users in equipment operation and laboratory techniques, explain and demonstrate technology and equipment capabilities, safe and appropriate operation, limitations and outcomes.
Coordinate data collection and screening and verify the data.
Conduct analysis of data, interpret and implement research methodology based on outcome of analysis.
Engage in related professional activities.
Prepare technical reports, conference and journal papers.
May supervise a small work group of students on research projects.
