The division advances patient care with diagnostic solutions to improve disease detection and management, and simplify laboratory operations.

Leads mammalian cell protein expression projects. This includes development, execution and interpretation of scientific research projects pertaining to mammalian cell derived recombinant proteins.

Major Accountabilities:

  • Provides updates to senior management on status of experiments and studies

  • Leads collaboration with internal scientific clients

  • Leads subsequent characterization of the recombinant proteins. Independently or with team members, plans research projects requiring initiative and judgement within defined procedures and practices

  • Independently selects methodological approaches and specific methods to achieve research objectives

  • Exercises judgment and initiative in making reach project decisions. Performs experiments in the laboratory as needed

  • Identifies, analyzes, and interprets project results. Leads communication of those results

  • In collaboration with other scientists, write original proposals for research projects. Remain up to date on pertinent scientific related topics

  • Prepares written reports on all phases of laboratory experimental work

  • Attends scientific meetings, seminars and leadership team meetings

  • Presents research results to colleagues at scientific meetings

  • Authors or co-authors scientific papers and /or journal articles and technical reports

  • Reviews and edits pertinent regulatory documents

  • Prepares and defends patent disclosures and applications

  • Works well with small teams in collaborative development and technical environment

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology or other life science fieldwith a minimum of 7+ years of industry lab experience .

  • Masters degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology or other life science field with a minimum of 5+ years industry lab experience.

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology or other life science field with a minimum of 1-2 years industry lab experience.

Experience:

  • Extensive experience with mammalian stable cell line development for protein production generation of stable cell lines by site-specific methodologies a plus

  • Subject matter expert in recombinant DNA techniques, tissue/cell culture, protein biochemistry

  • Experience in demonstrating and supervising technology transfer to a technical development team

  • Knowledge of large scale cell culture platforms (WAVE, etc.)

  • Bench chemistry, data analysis, documentation, reagent optimization

  • Ability to become familiar with relevant scientific literature

  • Comfortable with handling biohazardous and infectious samples

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Working knowledge of GenBank searching: BLAST, sequence alignment and analysis, tree building using Cluster and TreeView

You will use your background in synthetic biology to develop next generation technologies in cell therapy as you support our efforts focused on solid tumors indications. Specifically, you will be a key contributor in a team focused on advancing our synNotchTM dual tumor antigen sensing platform. The successful candidate will have a strong record of accomplishments and will be expected to work in a collaborative cross-functional team environment, performing experiments, organizing and analyzing results, communicating and presenting findings in team meetings. Responsibilities include, but not limited to: * Employ strategies for the genetic modification of human T cells using next generation chimeric antigen receptors (CAR) and/or T cell receptor (TCR) based technologies. * Develop novel protein or RNA based technologies for cell therapy. * Design and oversee in vitro functional assays of human T cells. * Work with immunologists to engineer therapeutic circuits and proteins to test novel adoptive cell therapy approaches. * Effectively communicate plans and results in both oral and written form. * Ability to work in a highly dynamic collaborative team environment. * Coordination of tasks across multiple projects, demonstrating prioritization and planning. * Interpret and effectively execute experiments in line with project timelines and goals. Requirements: * PhD Degree in Synthetic Biology/Immunology related fields with 3-5 years of industry experience. * Direct experience managing Research Associates and/or Scientists. * Previous experience engineering mammalian cells preferred but not required. * Protein, RNA, and/or circuit engineering background strongly preferred. * High proficiency with Golden Gate cloning. * Nice to Have: Experience with lentiviral or retroviral transgene delivery.
