We are seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist II to join our Cell Pharmacology team. You will advance our understanding of disease biology, contribute to target identification efforts, and work towards the discovery and optimization of new drugs for The Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease Area (CVM) of Biomedical Research. The work involves collaboration with research scientists across multiple disciplines as well as translational medicine colleagues who support bringing our drugs to patients.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Devise, develop and perform assays for drug discovery, including ion channel research and other cell-based/biophysical/biochemical techniques.

  • Support target validation and mechanism-of-action projects, including work with primary cells, human iPSC derived cadiomyocytes, and/or tissues.

  • Conduct data analyses and documentation of experiments.

  • Collaborate effectively while working in a matrixed environment.

  • Employ good laboratory, data recording and data documentation practices.

  • Present results in lab and department meetings.

  • Assist in writing research documents and publications.

Role Requirements

  • BS with 2+ years of relevant laboratory experience or MS degree in biochemistry, molecular or cell biology, biophysics, biomedical engineering or a related field.

  • A record of accomplishments with validated publications and/or abstracts, is preferred.

  • Previous Industry experience is a plus.

  • Familiarity with cell culture is required.

  • Flexibility and aptitude for learning, with the ability to quickly grasp new techniques and apply them to your work.

  • Experience in generation, analysis, and presentation of scientific data.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work optimally in a matrixed team environment.

Desired skills:

  • Experience in independently developing, executing, and troubleshooting cell-based assays for drug discovery is preferred.

  • Experience with ion channel research, electrophysiology (e.g. whole-cell patch clamp) or iPSC derived cells is a plus, but not required.

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $84,000 - $126,000/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
