Ardelyx is focused on enhancing the way people with cardiorenal diseases are treated by developing first-in-class medicines. Ardelyx's cardiorenal pipeline includes the Phase 3 development of tenapanor for the treatment of hyperphosphatemia in people with end-stage renal disease who are on dialysis and RDX013, a potassium secretagogue program for the potential treatment of high potassium, or hyperkalemia, a problem among certain patients with kidney and/or heart disease. In addition, Ardelyx has completed Phase 3 development of tenapanor for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) and submitted a New Drug Application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration seeking U.S. marketing approval for this indication. To efficiently bring its treatments to market, Ardelyx is pursuing strategic collaborations for tenapanor for IBS-C and hyperphosphatemia in certain territories. Ardelyx has established agreements with Kyowa Hakko Kirin in Japan, Fosun Pharma in China and Knight Therapeutics in Canada.

Research Scientist (Contract-to-hire)

Purpose of the role:

The individual will be responsible for performing synthetic organic chemistry to define robust chemical processes, and provide technical support for executing experiments as per project needs and assignments.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Design, demonstrate, optimize, and document chemical processes for small molecule drug candidates

  • Route scouting, and reaction screening

  • Intermediate Scale-up (~5L reactor, while observing all variables needed to enable transfer to pilot plant)

  • Crystallizations and final isolation to meet or exceed industry standards for quality

  • Transfer and troubleshoot chemical processes with our outsourcing partners

  • Interpret and present data from internal efforts as well as our outsourcing partners

  • Support manufacturing activities at contract manufacturing organizations through teleconference meetings as well as on-site support as needed

  • Review and provide appropriate comments for technical manufacturing documents

  • Write technical reports for work carried out in the laboratory (in-house) as well as summary reports for work contracted outside

Position Requirements:

  • Ph.D w/ 3 years of experience, BS or MS in a related Chemical field with 10 or more years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical research and development related to small molecules.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and utilizing newly acquired skills in demonstrable deliverables

  • Creative and adaptive chemistry problem solving

  • Ability to process data utilizing common applications such as MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  • Ability to be a self-starter and to communicate effectively

In this role you will be asked to envision and create rich data applications, build software to support quality throughout the product lifecycle, and contribute to data platform infrastructure ensuring reliability and robustness. This could include inventing novel UIs for exploring and gaining insights from data, implementing high-availability production APIs, and ultimately deploying predictive models and machine learning algorithms to further automate product quality improvements. Responsibilities * Contribute to the development of our data systems by building software for retrieving, processing, analyzing, and visualizing data. * Create ETL pipelines using Python, Airflow and Kubernetes. * Analyze manufacturing, equipment and vehicle data and extract useful statistics and insights about failures in order to drive meaningful improvements to production quality and customer experience. * Work effectively with engineering to turn analysis results into meaningful actions in the production and in the manufacturing process. * Identify data sources where the potential value is not fully realized and invent new means with which to interact and gather insights from them. * Develop and deploy predictive models for anomaly detection based on time-series data, images, text and numeric data. Requirements * Bachelor's degree or higher in quantitative discipline (e.g. Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering) or the equivalent in experience and evidence of exceptional ability * 2+ years of work experience in data engineering or analytics related field * Extensive experience writing software with Python (e.g. Pandas, Numpy) * Experience with multiple data architecture paradigms (e.g. MySQL, MicrosoftSQL, Oracle, Hadoop, Hbase, Kafka, Spark) * Experience with open source machine learning libraries and frameworks (e.g. Scikit-Learn, Tensorflow, Keras) and introduce accurate models to a production environment * Experience with data visualization techniques and tools (e.g. Matplotlib, Plotly, Superset, Tableau), quick web application experience preferred (e.g. Flask, JQuery, Angular) * Knowledge of various data communication protocols (e.g. REST API, Websockets) * Able to work under pressure while collaborating and managing competing demands with tight deadlines * A passion and curiosity for data, data-driven decision making and machine learning * Working knowledge with continuous integration pipelines and infrastructure (e.g. Docker, Jenkins, Kubernetes) Tesla Motors Fremont CA
