MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Translate products' concepts/insights into fast prototyping to evaluate technical feasibility.

  • Independently plan and execute research in support of assigned development projects.

  • Design and carry out experimental work using appropriate methods and instrumentation to scientifically confirm efficacy, stability, compatibility and reliability of formulation.

  • Responsible for GLP studies (e.g., formula efficacy, toxicity, product chemistry, etc.), and supports clinical studies, regulatory submission, manufacturing scale-up and commercial launches by designing and executing overall formulation development strategies.

  • Independently plan schedule of research according to project's timetable, and establish daily or weekly routines to meet project timetable.

  • Record experimental data according to established procedures, makes calculations, evaluates results, makes recommendations and maintains accurate records of work.

  • Regularly applies scientific theory to reach conclusions based upon data analysis.

  • Present scientific data and recommendation to influence internal stakeholder and drive project direction.

  • Identify capability and safety gaps in laboratory. Independently develops solutions and drive the implementation.

  • Regularly review scientific journals, patents, regulatory database, new technologies and competitive products to drive competitive advantages of product development pipelines.

  • Handle initial patent disclosure and IP of new or existing outside technologies. Conveying all known patent and IP research to internal organization.

  • Develop in-depth knowledge of new and existing products.

  • Estimated 5% travel will be required for this position.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry or chemical engineering with 0-3 years of industry or post-doctoral/start-up environments are highly preferred; M.S with significant experience would be considered.

  • Demonstrated technical knowledge in wet chemistry and analytical chemistry (e.g., chromatography)

  • In-depth understanding of colloid & surfactant science.

  • Extensive hands-on experience in liquid formulation development.

  • Understanding of EPA/FDA regulated products is a plus.

In this role the researcher will have to come up with product ideas based on market, industry and technology trends; initiate and prove feasibility of ideas, should have a very good understanding/working knowledge with all activities pertaining to product development that will help design and develop dental restorative products. PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: * Responsible for development of next generation/breakthrough products. * Translation of technologies to products. * Analyze and understand market and technology trends. * Define, develop and test new innovative products. * Develop products using product development process in accordance with design control. * Drive the Design process from conception to pilot testing, scale up, and commercialization. * Interface with various customer personnel to determine both articulated and unarticulated needs in order to develop products that meet/exceed customer needs while maximizing value in use. * Coordinate and support all phases of product development, including conceptualization, design control, packaging, documentation development, data generation, and performance verification. * Conduct feasibility study and provide constructive feedback on prospective projects/technologies. * Understand the competitive landscape (product offerings and IP) and use the information to develop value added and differentiated products. * Design and carry out experiments that scientifically confirm performance, reliability, and shelf life. * Plan schedule of research according to company's timetable, and establish daily or weekly routines necessary to meet project timetable. * Develop research plan and design experiments. * Write patents, technical market support literature, technical presentations and publications. * Develop in-depth knowledge of new and existing products. * Train and supervise research associates. * Evaluation of ideas, patents, competitive products and new technologies. * Perform other duties as responsibilities necessitate. * Estimated 5% travel may be required for this position. EDUCATION: * Ph.D. in Polymer chemistry, Polymer science, Organic chemistry or related field. EXPERIENCE: * 3 years demonstrated success in identifying and bringing to market innovative products. Product development experience in adhesive, cement or composite field highly desired. * Knowledge of physical properties, especially mechanical properties of polymeric/composite materials.Understanding of structure-property relationships of polymeric/composite materials. * Familiar with various polymerization mechanisms, especially free-radical polymerization of methacrylate monomers. SKILLS/ABILITIES: * Ability to translate voice of customer into product requirements. * Ability to design and conduct studies in accordance to product ideation. * Ability to communicate effectively across the enterprise, as well as various groups such as Marketing, Manufacturing, Regulatory, QA/QC, Supply Chain, Customer Service, Sales) and external customers and suppliers; ability to handle different personalities. * Handle all initial patent disclosure and IP of new or existing outside technologies. Conveying all known patent and IP research to internal organization. * Strong organizational skills. * Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, and be extremely dependable. * Strong organizational/time management and prioritization skills. * Ability to effectively present information. * Possess track record of new product development success and out-of-the-box thinking.
