Research Scientist 2

REQUIRED: Ph.D. in electrical engineering, materials science, physics, or closely related field; at least four years' related experience in a research environment (may include experience gained as a graduate student); background in ultrafast optics, microscopy, and spectroscopy, including coherent Raman spectroscopy, particularly in the near- to mid-infrared range; proficiency with supercontinuum generation and ultrafast nonlinear optics; experience managing independent research projects with demonstrated outcomes such as peer-reviewed conference presentations and publications; and expertise working with and preparing biological specimens, particularly egg embryos for testing. RESEARCH SCIENTIST 2, Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE), to conduct experimental and theoretical research under the guidance of principal research scientist Phillip D. Keathley. Will develop instrumentation, perform experiments, and communicate results through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.

Responsibilities include leading the design, development, and execution of new ultrafast, near- to mid-infrared spectroscopic techniques for in-ovo sexing of chicken embryos; creating a novel test station and experimental apparatus for early and accurate determination of chicken embryo sex using nonlinear spectroscopy and imaging; generating original ideas for research directions and methodologies and improving research methods and solutions; delivering internal reports and updates to project supervisors; overseeing lab personnel; contributing to lab maintenance and upkeep; training students and postdocs in relevant laboratory equipment use; authoring/co-authoring results, presenting findings in peer-reviewed journals and other publications; and preparing and delivering presentations at lab meetings, departmental seminars, and conferences. May participate in determining the group's long-term strategy and financial planning/operations; review and critique reports and analyses of graduate students and postdoctoral researchers; provide mentoring and direction to graduate students, research staff, and visitors.
