Occupational Summary

Conduct highly technical and specialized Orthopedic foot and ankle scientific research; perform bench and clinical research experiments, including animal surgery, simulations, and theoretical investigations; analyze data; and disseminate research findings. Participate and observe clinical activities, including clinical visits, rounds, meetings, and surgeries.

Position Responsibilities

  • Performing independent experiments, simulations, and theoretical investigations. Data collection and evaluation of data relevance.

  • Preparation, submission, and revision of scientific projects to the institution's Internal Review Board (IRB) for ethics approval. Study's registration in the specific platform (i.e., ClincalTrials) when applicable.

  • Enroll patients and volunteers in research, including contact during clinical and academic activities for informed consent (IC). Contacting subjects through email, phone calls, messages, or apps for admission, IC signature, visits, and questionnaire filling.

  • Access to electronic charts, imaging, and laboratory database (EPIC, PACS, Carestream, etc.) to gather information needed to conduct and develop research. Extraction of Patient Reported Outcome Measures.

  • Collaboration with the PhDs at the laboratory, division, department, and University. Development of data-sharing agreements and investigator initiatives with sponsor collaboration.

  • Independently work on basic and clinical research tasks with oversight by Faculty or Principal Investigator (PI) and contribute to the documentation of equipment and procedures.

  • Analysis of data for relevance and data integrity, performing basic data analysis techniques and comparing results of scientific investigations to previously published work.

  • Manuscripts preparation for contributing author for publication and presenting results in departmental seminars and professional meetings.

  • Contributing to new and continuing research grant proposals and helping to obtain funding for research activities.

  • Organization of deadlines, comprising meeting submissions, journal timelines, and grant proposals. Administrative overseeing the status of ongoing and developing projects. Laboratory dataset management.

  • Progress reports preparation and presentation required by funding agencies and ensures adherence to safety and compliance guidelines. Specifically, ensuring that all HIPAA and patient safety guidelines are met, as well as the security of personal information.

  • Lead basic research projects with cadaveric studies and animal models.

  • Develop independent research ideas and assist the Department of Orthopedics in literature reviews and organization of lectures. Participation in journal clubs and academic meetings.

  • Observe clinics and operating rooms. Cases preparation and discussion.

  • Mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows in research projects to develop their lines of research and supervision the progress of ongoing research projects.

  • May provide functional and administrative supervision for staff. Provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching, and counseling to ensure outcomes are achieved.
