Position Summary

The role of this Project Manager position is to coordinate activities of multiple research projects within the School of Medicine, as well as to support the development of new grant proposals. Currently funded projects that this manager will support include (1) the NIH-funded study, Examining racial disparities in fatal overdose, self-harm, and perpetrating assaults following law enforcement-mediated involuntary commitment and (2) the Duke Endowment Foundation (DEF)-funded study, Supporting People with Serious Mental Illness Upon Release from Incarceration-The Formerly Incarcerated Transition (FIT) Wellness Clinic. Specifically, for the first project, we will conduct interviews with people following their hospital discharge for an involuntary commitment to better understand their perspectives on hospitalization, the events leading up to hospitalization, and future care seeking. For the second project, we will conduct interviews with people following release from incarceration to better understand the barriers and facilitators to routine healthcare and mental healthcare and, for individuals in the FIT and FIT Wellness Programs, patient's experiences with the specific programs including perceived strengths and limitations of programs.

As Project Manager, the person in this position will be responsible for activities generally falling under the following categories:

  • Drafting IRB modifications and renewals and communicating with regulatory coordinators
  • Coordinating meetings, developing agendas
  • Developing and carrying out study timelines and procedures
  • Coordinating/writing progress reports and grant applications to funders and potential funders
  • Tracking recruitment and enrollment, including creation of weekly reports
  • Tracking and disbursing gift cards to study participants
  • Contacting potential participants to explain the study, obtain informed consent, and arrange interview times
  • Conducting participant interviews
  • Contributing to coding and analysis of interview data
  • Assisting with the development of academic presentations and publications and other reports

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Has familiarity with implementation of the Transitional Care Network model.
  • Familiar with regulatory requirements (i.e. NIH, IRB).
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple research projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Experienced with study enrollment for investigations addressing health and healthcare for people with serious mental illness.
  • Experienced conducting or supporting qualitative research addressing continuity of care for people released from prison.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Has familiarity with implementation of the Transitional Care Network model.
  • Familiar with regulatory requirements (i.e. NIH, IRB).
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple research projects simultaneously.
