Position: Research Project Manager, Anesthesiology Research

Location: Boston, MA

Schedule: 40 hours per week

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for overseeing two or more domestic and/or international research projects under the direction of management and Principal Investigators. The Research PM will work with the study team to develop study protocols, assessment instruments, and IRB protocols; monitor study implementation; assist with manuscripts and presentations; ensure compliance with reporting to NIH, and coordinate new grant applications. The PM will monitor budgets and spending and coordinate contracts with independent consults and subcontractors. The PM may be responsible for hiring and supervising any research support staff.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Management

  • Coordinates/facilitates the research project management life cycle, including initiation, development, and implementation of various complex experimentation projects.

  • Responsible for scoping, coordinating early research activities, training research staff, and managing the completion of investigational forms.

  • Coordinates research teams, and manages research project timelines, to ensure research trials or milestones are completed within specified timeframe.

  • Responsible for the completion of both research and project management deliverables, including project plans and research schedules, competitive intelligence reports, progress reports and investigational applications.

Research Management

  • Works with Principal Investigators to select the most appropriate methodology and techniques for facilitating the research.

  • Responsible for producing qualitative and quantitative research plans, designing research questionnaires/moderator guides. Collects, summarizes and interprets research data.

  • Works with research teams (on site and/or off-site), and the project and research directors, to coordinate fieldwork initiatives, and conduct pre-research and post-research analyses and evaluations.

  • Collaborates with Principal Investigator to author journal articles and to present findings at research seminars, study groups and conferences.

Staff Management

  • Supervise support staff (e.g., Research Coordinators, Research Assistants, etc), including training, delegating tasks, overseeing daily activities, mentoring, guiding through demonstration of best practices and offering opportunities for professional development.

  • Prepares performance evaluations, submits timesheets; responsible for hiring, disciplining and processing terminations in accordance with established polices.

  • Schedules and facilitates staff meetings. Plans agenda and ensures that minutes are taken, edited and distributed.

Administrative Duties

  • Manages purchasing, invoices and accounts payable for the department. Assists the Principal Investigator with monitoring expenses, facilitating contracts, ordering materials and documenting all approved variances.

  • Liaisons with Institutional Review Board (IRB) for submissions, correspondence, and regulatory binders, including administrative amendments.

  • Assists with development and writing of proposals to obtain funding for ongoing and future research activities.

  • Perform administrative duties associated with the study's Data Monitoring and Safety Board, tracking and reporting adverse events and collecting data specified by the DMSB. Responsible for all other administrative duties related to research activities.

Department-specific Duties

  • Assists with completion of IRB applications and protocols. Connects researchers doing prospective trials to the appropriate offices including CTO, CRRO etc. Manages department's research portfolio and database - prioritizing needs and allocating resources

  • Creates IRB compliant databases for study data collection including Redcap, Access, and excel database. Ensure study team personnel adherence to Good Clinical Practice and compliance

  • Manages and assigns duties to medical students, grad students, volunteers and other research assistants. Onboard/train research assistant in performing chart reviews, writing IRB applications, consenting patients, creating and maintaining databases and writing/submission of manuscripts

  • Conducts bi-weekly meetings with per diem research assistant, students, and statistician to recap completed and pending tasks and perform check-in

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred

EXPERIENCE:

  • With Bachelor's Degree: Minimum of five years' experience in research public health, health care administration and/or related field, including experience managing projects and operations.

  • With Master's Degree: Minimum of three years' experience in research public health, health care administration and/or related field, including experience managing projects and operations.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Must be highly organized and detail-oriented, have exceptional oral communications and writing skills.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in project management, including budgeting, planning, execution, delivery, quality assurance, and reporting.

  • Experience in data analysis and manuscript preparation is helpful.

  • Knowledge of MS Word, Power Point, and Excel is essential.

  • Must be a proactive problem solver with superb planning, program coordination, and leadership skills.
