Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Research Project Coordinator for the John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development

  • Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy. Reporting to the Sr Research Project Mgr, this position has two core responsibilities: 1) The position is responsible for conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses for research projects using education, workforce, and human services data.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Develops research designs.

  • Identifies and calculates appropriate performance measures.

  • Identifies and implements the most appropriate methods for conducting quantitative or qualitative studies.

  • Conducts literature reviews and structured interviews.

  • Leads focus groups.

  • Writes reports, conference papers, and publications based on the data analyses conducted.

  • Interacts with stakeholders in Federal, New Jersey state government, and the research community.

  • Responsible for strategic dissemination of research projects and findings including graphic design of complex data into myriad formats for different data consumers, report production and website and social media graphic design to help Heldrich Center research reach multiple audiences.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Requires a bachelor's degree preferably in public policy, social work, education, sociology, or a related field and demonstrated experience in social science research and a minimum of two years research experience, or a combination of education and additional professional work experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of research methods, program coordination, organization, facilitation, data analysis, writing for research, and data analysis and visualization.

Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • The position requires a demonstrated ability in graphic and visual design of written products. Requires the ability to collaborate in a team and work independently.

  • Requires excellent verbal, written, and analytical, data visualization, organization, and attention to detail skills.

  • Requires computer literacy and general internet and electronic communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Powerpoint) as well as videoconference platforms (Zoom, Webex, Microsoft Teams), and project management platforms (e.g., Miro, Trellio).

  • This position requires an advanced degree in a social scientific field because the primary job duties relate to implementing highly sophisticated research methods that are not taught at the undergraduate level.

  • Doing the position well, moreover, requires that the individual have sufficient experience implementing the different methods of analysis to be able to make difficult judgments about which design is the most appropriate given the data.

  • Knowledge of the national and state public workforce, higher education and/or education policy, programs, and operations is required.

  • It also requires an astute understanding of the intended audiences for the research so that the findings can be translated into appropriate formats.

  • In addition to the aforementioned, the position requires an exceptionally high level of attention to detail.

  • Depth of understanding of both substantive expertise and ability to create research products, and a concrete understanding of client's needs and use for products and how products can be modified to be used for multiple dissemination methods (transforming research into journal articles, web articles, research briefs).

  • An ability to think and a creativity to develop and answer intriguing research questions based on the data.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and experience with developing effective research proposals and securing major grants from corporations, foundations, state and Federal governments, and private funding sources, producing written reports - especially in the scholarly and academic settings preferred.

  • Knowledge of and experience in analyzing employment and training, education, human services and/or higher education data preferred.

Equipment Utilized

  • The person in the position will use Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, Adobe Creative Cloud, Qualtrics, Zoom, Webex, WordPress, Miro, NVivo, and Trello for these projects.

Immunization Requirements

Under Policy 60.1.35 Immunization Policy for Rutgers Employees and Prospective Employees, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to receive an updated (bivalent) vaccine dose. Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
