Position Summary
The primary responsibility of this position will be operating, managing, and augmenting activities of the Water and Soil laboratory within the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources. Laboratory administrative activities will include managing student safety, chemical safety, and radiation safety in the laboratory; analyzing and assisting with analysis of soil, water, and plant tissue samples in support of research for professors and graduate students; training students in laboratory protocols and instrument analysis. The position also expects fiscal and administrative duties both managing laboratory revenues and expenditures.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Knowledge of laboratory protocols for chemical analyses, ability to manage and statistically analyze databases.
Excellent organizational skills are essential.
Capable of managing all laboratory users and directly supervising graduate and undergraduate students.
Management of financial budgets.
Physical Demands
Ability to drive and a willingness to obtain a Georgia Driver's license.
Standing for an 8-hour day as needed.
Willingness and ability (walk 1 mile in the woods carrying 20 pounds of equipment) for occasional field work in the field under adverse conditions (hot, rain, bugs, cold).

Duties/Responsibilities
Preparing and processing soil, water, and plant tissue samples for quantitative and qualitative analysis, including grinding, sieving, weighing, drying, digesting, and extracting of nutrients.
Running analytical equipment including such things as an ion chromatograph, flow analyzer, or carbon/nitrogen analyzer.

Research and Administrative Support: Including organizing student activities, ensuring laboratory and right-to-know safety training, hazardous waste disposal, training students on how to use instrumentation and perform analysis of their samples, ordering supplies, and budget record keeping.
Generating outside revenue through sample analysis.
