Allied Mineral Products, Inc. is a leading manufacturer of monolithic refractories worldwide, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. We are currently seeking a Research Mineralogist who will be responsible for Perform mineralogical investigation of refractory related ceramic systems. Use knowledge obtained to initiate and support ceramics research. As secondary functions, 1) support operation of the analytical service work flow to assist the Product Services and Quality Assurance groups, and 2) assist the R&D development staff in conducting research and development projects to design and/or improve new and existing products.
The ideal candidate will have the following:
Masters Degree in Geology with petrographic experience in applying phase diagrams and high temperature geological mineralogical transformations.
Minimum of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology or Mineralogy, or equivalent combination of education and experience related to mineralogical and petrographic methods.
Experience in refractories or metallurgy is desired, but not necessary.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
A practical approach to problem solving.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Technical report writing capability.
Initiate organize, implement, and monitor mineralogical studies designed to support investigative and developmental programs.
Organize and supervise the mineralogy laboratory.
Develop programs of investigation designed to study specified ceramic and ceramic-metal systems.
Develop and recommend a budget for the operation of the mineralogy laboratory.
Evaluate outside research and development and testing facilities and recommend who the company should use for various services.
Consult with and assist staff and other personnel in daily activities.
Maintain your knowledge of the state of the art by reading technical papers and periodicals and by continuing education.
Record the results of your investigative and developmental work for maximum patent protection.
Maintain education, institutional, and professional contacts for the benefit of the company.
Develop improved methods of materials analysis and property evaluation and recommend equipment needs.
Identify and recommend alternate raw material supplies or suppliers for existing and new products.
Develop test methods to more efficiently monitor incoming raw material quality.
Be active in company committees as directed by the Vice President, Research and Technology.
Provide leadership, supervision, and management to subordinate technical staff. Such staff may include Chemists, Chemical Technicians and/or Ceramic Technicians.
Write technical reports related to projects as needed.
