Research Manager, Cloud Deployment Platforms

IDC US/IDC Canada's Developer Research Team seeks a Research Manager to support its research and business development efforts in analyzing trends concerning modern cloud application deployment platforms.

This position offers the Research Manager the opportunity to thrive as a provider of market intelligence, delivering expert solutions to major suppliers of cutting-edge infrastructure and software solutions. The Research Manager will be an expert in next-generation cloud application deployment platforms. As such, this role will produce best-in-class research on the state of contemporary deployment platforms and how they are changing in conjunction with market drivers and end-user needs.

This position is based in IDC's Needham, MA office. We will consider remote candidates from an approved US office location. We will consider remote approved Canadian locations(Alberta,BC, Vancouver and Nova Scotia) or in the Greater Toronto area. You must be in the office 1-2 days/week in Toronto if you are located in the Greater Toronto area.

Responsibilities

• Develop, publish, and present innovative, insightful, and actionable research. This research includes writing well-researched and concise reports and generating thought leadership around the topics of contemporary cloud application deployment platforms.

• Understand the adoption of discrete and hybrid methodologies for software development, such as waterfall, agile, scrum, and DevOps.

• Regularly author written research and thought leadership for custom consulting projects as needed. These projects range from webcast content marketing to strategy sessions.

• Create quantitative data models, pivot tables, and other quantitative syntheses of relevant market data.

• Collaborate with multiple survey-based efforts that include data on cloud platform services and support of application deployments.

• Apply skills across consulting, advisory, research, and business development to help grow the program.

• Support customer inquiries related to market trends related to cloud application deployment platforms.

• Present key research findings and insights to clients in person and via video conferencing.

• Provide first-class customer support and advisory services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree is required. Additional education is a plus.

• 5+ years of work experience in roles relevant to the subject matter covered. Roles in marketing or journalism can be helpful; previous experience as an industry analyst, working within an IT vendor, IT organization, and/or research or consulting role is a plus.

• A self-motivated individual who can work and collaborate with minimal supervision, ensuring customer commitments and projects are completed on time and with excellent quality.

• A working understanding of cloud market trends, key players, edge platforms, and deployment scenarios, including opinionated deployment platforms, DevOps, serverless, Kubernetes, and deployment pipelines, is desired.

• Previous business development skills and ability to communicate to clients what they need to drive their business growth objectives. Experience in understanding the research needs of multiple types of clients.

Salary range and additional compensation, including discretionary bonuses and incentive pay, are determined by a rigorous review process. This process considers the experience, education, certifications, and skills required for the specific role, equity with similarly situated employees, as well as employer-verified US region-specific market data provided by an independent 3rd party partner. The expected total annual compensation, depending on location and experience, is between $90,000 and $115,000 USD and is inclusive of base salary and variable compensation (if applicable).
