This position will lead sample library prep for the nanopore sequencing team.
Responsible for development of novel library prep strategies for Roche nanopore sequencer and optimization of library prep construction, purification and characterization.
Develops product concepts and specifications, and translates into focused scientific activities.
Plans and designs advance independent or multi-disciplinary research/development experiments driven by strategic business needs.
Serves as subject matter expert with external resources and contacts at various management levels concerning operations or scheduling of specific phases of projects.
Prepares timelines and assessments of project progress and critical factors, and establishes priorities.
Assumes responsibility for timely completion of projects, and resolves technical issues.
Ensures activities meet performance/quality expectations and are consistent with project critical path.
Ensures technical activities under delegated supervision are conducted within of internal and external guidelines and regulations. Interacts with other departments to further project goals.
Recommends new approaches, expansion or curtailment of project technical activities based on experimental results or new scientific information.
Adjusts direction of research activities accordingly as scientific findings warrant.
Communicates progress of efforts to Director and other departments to assure awareness of current status of projects.
Provides top line review of experimental results, and secondary review of experimental data.
Presents findings or comprehensive project status reviews at internal & external meetings.
Manages projects and assigned staff, provides scientific/technical direction, and designates accountability for product research and development activities. Gives people assignments and training to develop their abilities.
Makes decisions under consultative direction that impact broad company objectives.
Decisions have a long term effect on the objectives of the function and/or area.
Manages staff; provides staff with coaching, training and opportunities to develop skills, and gives ongoing, constructive and timely feedback on performance and progress toward goals and expectations.
Master's degree in Biological/Life Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field and 8+ years industry experience or Ph.D. and 5+ years of industry experience
Expert in enzymatic manipulation of DNA, DNA amplification, genomic DNA library prep, DNA sequencing, polymerase chain reaction, and other standard Molecular Biology techniques.
Expert in oligonucleotide characterization, probe/primer designs, generation, and hybridization
Detailed-oriented, analytical and systematic in problem-solving and trouble-shooting.
Prior experience with next-generation sequencing sample prep is strongly preferred.
Knowledge of structural biology and biophysics of nucleic acids and nucleic acid-protein interactions preferred.
Knowledge of bioinformatics preferred.
Prior experience with single molecule sequencing preferred.
Prior leadership and management preferred.
