Summary

Established investigator looking to hire and train a full time research technician to assist senior lab staff in processing of human specimens for clinical research purposes. The technician will be trained in and expected to reliably perform: centrifugation, pipetting, DNA extraction, quantification, amplification and sequencing.

Responsibilities*

  • Laboratory processing of human specimens (blood, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid, swabs).

  • Keep lab notebook updated. Data collection, analysis, organization, and reporting to PI and senior lab staff.

  • DNA extraction and processing for microbiome studies.

Required Qualifications*

  • HS Diploma or Assoc Degree and 0-1 year experience required

  • Candidates should have sufficient laboratory experience to be able to quickly learn new skills and protocols.

  • Must possess excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Must be able to work independently after appropriate training.

Desired Qualifications*

Bachelor's Degree and undergraduate classes (e.g. molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, and immunology with laboratory components) are strongly preferred.

Additional Information

This is a term-limited appointment based on available funding. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
