Summary

The laboratory of Dr. Michelle Hastings is hiring an Associate Research Lab Specialist to join a project investigating RNA therapeutic approaches for genetic disease. The current focus of the project is on mRNA and antisense oligonucleotide drug discovery for treating lysosomal storage diseases. The lab uses cell and animal models of disease to test RNA drugs for the potential of treating disease. Applications of these approaches to other diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease are also investigated.

Responsibilities*

  • Responsible for the operation of the laboratory.

  • Has an active role in the design, execution and outcome assessment of a project or research study.

  • Coordinates the collection and analysis of data and the conduct of experimental tests and procedures.

  • Analyzes experimental data.

  • Trains users in equipment operation and laboratory techniques. Explains and demonstrates technology and equipment capabilities, operations limitations, and outcomes.

  • Increased responsibility for writing research support proposals and acquiring data from outside agencies.

  • May act as a liaison with other departments, programs, or organizations for acquiring data and sharing information related to the research project.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • 1-3 years of research experience.

  • Experience in molecular biology, genetics, neuroscience, cell biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, physiology, biophysics, or related field.

  • Experience in molecular and cellular techniques.

  • Excellent data analysis and management skills.

  • Ability to work in a team.

  • Strong oral and written scientific communication skills.

Background Screening
