This position is a full-time, one-year (renewable) position, and can start as early as May 2024.

For more than 75 years, the University of Southern California has been working to ensure that people of every age and from every circumstance can live life to the fullest. Throughout the decades, Trojans near and far have advanced the profession of occupational therapy and the research discipline of occupational science. Today, the USC Chan Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy proudly carries this legacy forward as we aim to improve the quality of life of people and communities across the world.

We have a shared purpose here at USC Chan. Together, our researchers, educators, clinicians, students, and alumni are dedicated to optimizing the engagement of people - especially those with disability, injury, illness, unhealthy lifestyles or chronic conditions - in the ordinary and extraordinary activities of life.

The Neural Plasticity and Neurorehabilitation Laboratory (NPNL) of the University of Southern California, directed by Dr. Sook-Lei Liew, is now looking for an initiative-taking Research Lab Technician III/Supervisor to join the team!

The laboratory is devoted to the study of neuroplasticity and motor learning in healthy individuals and individuals after stroke.

The overall aim is to understand mechanisms of brain plasticity and to apply this knowledge to the development of novel interventions to enhance recovery after stroke.

The laboratory focuses on using big data approaches to neuroimaging and genetics, using behavioral and non-invasive MRIs to examine brain-behavior relationships after stroke.

The lab also participates in national trials using brain stimulation (e.g., transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)), and is the home to ReproRehab, an NIH-funded educational initiative to train rehabilitation researchers in data science and programming skills. Research will also entail working with a number of research partners worldwide. More information about the NPNL can be found at http://npnl.usc.edu

The ideal candidate should have, or will soon have, a bachelor's or master's degree in Neuroscience, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field. The successful applicant should be initiative-taking, organized, willing to learn, adaptable, meticulous, possess strong written and verbal communication skills, and take initiative. Technical knowledge of neuroimaging and brain anatomy, experience with organizing, maintaining, and analyzing large brain imaging datasets, programming expertise with python, Bash and parallel computing, experience with Brain Imaging Data Standards (BIDS) and MRI-based neuroimaging software programs (e.g., FreeSurfer, ITKSna) and statistics/machine learning strongly preferred.

The hourly rate range for this position is $31.44 - $40.11. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
