Job Description:
Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Research Lab Scientist in the Functional Genomics Laboratory.
The Research Laboratory Scientist will work under the mentorship of Dr. Sujoy Ghosh. Dr. Ghosh's research applies computational systems biology and laboratory-based genetics, genomics, cell and molecular biology techniques to understand the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying obesity, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
The overall aim of the laboratory is to identify new disease targets and develop new diagnostics and therapeutics to improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of these disorders. The successful applicant will work under the direction of the PI and will be responsible for designing and conducting experiments, analyzing data and reporting results.
Major Responsibilities
Functions as the primary contact for investigators and research staff.
Responsible for basic laboratory management tasks including day-to-day operation, ordering supplies, maintaining laboratory stocks and overseeing laboratory management in general.
Oversee study data management, assisting in study data analysis and interpretation, and assisting in preparing presentations, publications, and grants related to data collected in the lab.
Participate in oral presentations at lab meetings and in the writing of manuscripts.
Perform various lab experiments as needed.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a science related field. Master's degree preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in laboratory management and molecular/cellular biology techniques including, but not limited to, mammalian cell culture, Western blotting, RNA/DNA extraction and cloning, polymerase chain reaction, RNA interference, immunohistochemistry, FACS analysis, and expertise in small animal handling.
Working knowledge and capability of implementing principles needed to sanitize equipment and prevent cross-contamination of equipment.
Ability to quickly learn and implement diverse cell-based assays involving multiple cell types is required.
