Duties and Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee the daily operations of the laboratory including ordering of supplies, preparation of reagents, and the general organization of the lab
Budgeting
Administration of research grants
Assist the Primary Investigator in the preparation and submission of grant proposals including NIH R03, R15, R16, R21, R25 and R01 grants
Independently design, implement, and trouble shoot experiments
Perform a variety of advanced molecular biology techniques
Lead the writing of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
Management of a mouse colony including numerous different transgenic strains
Oversee laboratory safety policies
Independently develop lab methods and procedures
Maintain a detailed written record of all laboratory experiments
Instruct and train technicians and undergraduate student interns
Periodic travel to MSU Bozeman for animal work
Preparation of IACUC animal protocols and renewals
Required Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Five or more years of previous experience in a research laboratory
Laboratory skills in molecular biology including DNA and RNA purification, protein isolation, cloning, PCR, qRTPCR, SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, Western Blot Analysis, cell culture and ELISA
Experience in fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS)
Experience managing a transgenic mouse colony
Experience writing IACUC animal protocols and renewals
Experience in mouse dissections and tissue collection
Extensive experience in cryosectioning and preparation of animal tissues for cryosectioning
Experience in immunohistochemistry and fluorescence microscopy including confocal microscopy
Strong organizational skills
Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment
Proficiency in Excel, including charting data and performing basic statistical analyses including calculating mean, standard deviation, standard error, and P value
Experience using ImageJ (Fiji) software
Experience writing manuscripts for publication
Bachelor's degree or higher
