Facebook Reality Labs (FRL) is a world leader in the design of virtual and augmented reality systems. The Surreal Vision team at FRL Redmond is looking for exceptional engineering interns to help us create next generation experiences in virtual and augmented reality.

This role is focused on leveraging robotics towards optical and imaging system evaluation and characterization, as well as process automation and hardware production. A successful candidate will be well versed in at least one of (and conversant in the rest of) the following fields: computer vision, robotics, kinematics, and motion planning.

Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and implementation of algorithms and robotics systems

Collaboration with and support of other researchers across various disciplines.

Communication of research agenda, progress and results.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Pursuing a PhD in Computer Science, Computer Vision, Robotics, or a related field

Currently enrolled in a full time degree program and returning to the program after the completion of the internship.

Experience in C++ programming

Experience with one or more of the following areas: sensor fusion, state estimation, camera calibration, optical or sensor modeling, robot kinematics, robot planning

Experience designing, integrating, and calibrating a multi-modal sensor system (IMU, LiDAR, 2D/3D cameras)

Interpersonal skills: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.

Able to obtain work authorization in the U.S. between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated software engineering experience via an internship, coding competition, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. Github).

Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, as well as first-authored publications at leading workshops, conferences and journals such as CVPR, ECCV/ICCV, ICCP, SIGGRAPH, RSS, IJRR, IROS, ICRA, 3DV.

We are currently seeking an innovative research intern with a passion for technology to develop next-generation head-mounted display and imaging systems at our research location in Redmond, WA. The role is focused on developing new display systems, that leverage the co-design of optical elements and electro-mechanical components. We welcome senior Undergraduates, Masters and PhD students in mechanical engineering, optical mechanical engineering, mechatronics, robotics, or similar, with demonstrated skill in design and hands on prototyping. Our internships are sixteen (16) to twenty four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year. RESPONSIBILITIES * Design and build next-generation head-mounted displays, camera prototypes, and/or subsystems Explore new methods to improve existing mechanical research, from performance to manufacturing, utilizing FEA simulations and benchtop test beds Collaborate with the larger Oculus Research team and provide creative contributions to the display and imaging technologies MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Pursuing a degree in the field of Mechanical Engineering, Opto-Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Robotics Currently enrolled in a full time degree program and returning to the program after the completion of the internship 2+ years experience in solving problems in Mechanical Engineering, emphasizing on hardware prototyping 2+ years experience with FEA simulation, with experience using ANSYS or Solidworks Simulation 2+ years experience with CAD modelling, using Solidworks or NX Interpersonal skills: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration Able to obtain work authorization in the United States between January 1, 2019, and December 31 2019 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Knowledge of, and experience working with optics, with a focus on mounting and system performance sensitivities Demonstrated success with electro-mechanical integrations, from sourcing electrical components to writing code in Arduino or similar.
