What Will You Be Doing?

  • Assists with research experiments for specific area.

  • Conducts laboratory analyses; assists in assay studies and tests on substrates of materials used in research.

  • Performs cell bacterial and viral cultures utilizing sterile techniques.

  • Grows and harvests research specimens.

  • Obtains supplies and equipment needed for research projects and ensures equipment is in proper working condition. Draws items from inventory supplies.

  • Prepares special instruments and monitoring devices used to record test results.

  • Maintains laboratory records and completes required charts. Records patient information in log books. Files charts and patient slides and ensures appropriate disbursement of reports.

  • Assists with preparation of laboratory reports by collecting and collating research data. Prepares drafts of laboratory reports under direction of Research Assistant and conducts library research to obtain supporting research data. Prepares charts, graphs, and related data.

  • Maintains clean laboratory area. Replaces instruments after use and ensures slides, test tubes, glassware, and other items used in analyses are cleaned. Adheres to proper safety techniques and procedures.

  • Performs miscellaneous related duties

What Are We Looking For?

To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess these minimum qualifications and experience:

  • High School graduate with two years accredited college coursework majoring in science preferred.

Minimum Physical Requirements:

50% Typing on computer

25% Answering phones

11% Miscellaneous paperwork associated with research and OSU faculty appointment10% Acting as liaison02% Xeroxing02% Filing

What Will You Be Doing? * Performs research experiments independently or semi-independently in accordance with protocols approved by the principal investigator. Such experiments may involve the use of laboratory animals or human subjects any may require evening and/or weekend duties. * Prepares and tests substrate, conducts assays, and prepares tissue cultures for use in research studies, as applicable. Collects blood, urine, and other samples as needed. Such activities may be performed independently and may require evening and weekend hours. * Ensures accuracy of laboratory analytical procedures as required by specific research projects. * Collects and controls experimental data and patient information; and maintains accurate daily logs of experiments including methods, results, and conclusions. * Interprets the results of data analyses with input from the principal investigator. * Assists the principal investigator in the preparation of scientific publications and grant proposals. * Make recommendations about refinement and/or replacement of laboratory analytical procedures. Implements such refinements or new procedures with input from the principal investigator. * Orders supplies needed to conduct research; maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; and assures that research equipment is in good working order. * Collaborates in the preparation of research budgets, and monitors expenditure of funds to assure that studies are conducted within budgetary constraints. * Instructs other laboratory workers and students in standard methods, practices, procedures, and equipment operations. * Assists senior laboratory staff in the performance of experiments. * Maintains a clean working area and performs general laboratory maintenance. Adheres to proper safety techniques and procedures. * Performs miscellaneous related duties as assigned. Qualifications What Are We Looking For? To fulfill this role successfully, you must possess these minimum qualifications and experience: * Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of science from an accredited college. * Six months to two years of relevant laboratory experience preferred. * Coursework in anatomy, physiology, statistics, relevant research methods and radiation desirable.
