Facebook Reality Labs are a world leader in the design of virtual reality systems.e are currently seeking innovative research interns with a passion for technology to develop new depth sensor hardware and algorithms at our research location in Redmond, WA. This role is focused on developing data algorithm pipelines for novel sensor technology, with a possible emphasis on depth pipeline reconstruction, quantitative performance modeling, design and evaluation of illumination or sensor architectures, or similar topics. The position requires a candidate be actively pursuing a PhD in the optical sciences, electrical engineering, physics, computer science, or similar.

Our internship is twelve (12) to twenty four (24) weeks long and we have various start dates available throughout the year.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and/or evaluate novel depth sensor prototypes that demonstrate proof of concept in an experimental system architecture.

Develop new data algorithms compatible with novel sensor prototype hardware.

Develop mathematical models that quantitatively describe system performance.

Work cross functionally with technical experts in other disciplines to develop experimental setups and prototype concepts.

Summarize and communicate results to technical leads across Facebook Reality Labs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Pursuing a PhD degree in the field of optical sciences, electrical engineering, physics, computer science, or related field.

Currently enrolled in a full time degree program and returning to the program after the completion of the internship.

Expertise with structured light and/or time-of-flight depth sensors, working with depth data, environmental and/or user state estimation, optical and/or electrical instrumentation, physical optics.
2+ years' experience with programming languages such as C++, C#, MATLAB, Python, or similar
2+ years' experience working with or developing new scientific or computer vision algorithms.

Must be available for 4-6 month internship between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019

Interpersonal skills: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration

Able to obtain work authorization in the U.S. between January 1, 2019 and December 31, 2019

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated ability in working with or building computer vision algorithms, numerical optimization, and/or machine learning.

Experience working with image sensors and/or optical hardware.

Demonstrated ability in working with depth sensors or depth data.

Demonstrated experience via an internship, work experience, or widely used contributions to open source projects.

Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by first-authored publications.
