Summary of Position

The Research Intern will be working in the Antibody Engineering Department of MacroGenics, implementing hands on experience on molecular biology techniques and assay validation to facilitate stability improvements of therapeutic antibodies.

Responsibilities and Job Duties

  • Design plasmids for site-directed mutagenesis, cloning and transformations Transient small-scale mammalian transfections of different antibody variants Perform immunoassays to validate expression and antigen binding properties of antibody variants Coordinate with Protein Engineering Division to learn about protein profiles and thermal stabilities Data analysis using the software Lasergene, GraphPad Prism, SoftMax Pro Documenting experimental procedures and results

Qualifications

Education, Certifications & Experience

  • Undergraduate rising juniors, or seniors and graduate students in accredited universities Must be pursuing a degree in the areas such as Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biotechnology or related discipline Minimum GPA of 3.0

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of molecular biology cloning, PCR Knowledge of antibody structure, protein chemistry Experience in working with Window-based software and Office programs (Excel/ PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications Previous lab experience Experience with standard molecular biology technique and immunoassay: PCR, ELISA

Summary of Position This internship is in the Cell Culture Manufacturing department at MacroGenics and will provide an opportunity for engineering/STEM students to get hands on experience and be part of a fast-growing manufacturing site that is committed to excellence in our operational processes. The cell culture manufacturing intern will contribute to departmental projects and advance best design practices. This individual functions with supervision as a cooperative associate and is actively engaged with the cell culture upstream department team. He/she displays basic scientific and technical knowledge, initiative and scientific commitment, and makes scientific and technical contributions within the Cell Culture group. As an Intern, you will obtain a better understanding of drug substance manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals, including the necessary support functions associated with upstream/downstream manufacturing processes, and provision of troubleshooting during batch record execution within the SAP system, inventory control and technical writing. Responsibilities and Job Duties * Evaluate material flow and process improvements in manufacturing * Review specific product campaign summary reports and analyze for process data trends * Conduct Root cause analysis of system errors within SAP * Identify departmental SAP reporting requirements * Work with IT team to develop and implement required reports * Catalog training documentation per job descriptions; determine curriculum gaps and outline for new material Qualifications Education, Certifications & Experience * Currently enrolled in a full-time bachelor's degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent * Degree concentration in science and/or engineering (Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, etc.) * Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing * 18 years or older Knowledge, Skills and Abilities * Solid grasp of basic related concepts and be willing and capable to learn in a fast-paced environment * Interest in cell culture and mammalian and insect cell propagation * Familiarity with MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) * Strong organizational, documentation and technical writing skills * The ability to multitask and prioritize tasks while maintaining a results-oriented focus * Detail oriented Preferred Qualifications * Previous Co-Op and/or academic lab experience * Ability to gown and gain entry to laboratory areas * Visio or engineering design software Statement MacroGenics is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
