To establish optimal and efficient procedure to generate patient-specific stem cells for future clinical application. To characterize patient-specific stem cells for their pluripotent potential and safety
Stem cell-based cell replacement therapy (also called regenerative medicine) has the great potential to change the way conventional and intractable human diseases are treated. Toward this goal, stem cell biologists' efforts are focused on developing methods by which patient-specific pluripotent stem cells can be generated without the
dilemma of embryo destruction. Dr. Kim has pioneered and recently succeeded in a potentially ground-breaking method to generate human iPS cells without any virus or
plasmid DNA, resulting in clinically feasible iPS cells.
