The Young-Pearse laboratory focuses on the identification of the mechanistic causes of neurodegenerative and developmental disorders of the nervous system, with the ultimate goal of identifying novel targets for therapeutic interventions for these diseases. There is an urgent need for new treatments for psychiatric disorders. However, understanding mental illness at a cell and molecular level is a daunting task, and the field is not yet ready to design drugs targeting the molecular pathways underlying complex disorders of the brain. The identification and study of convergent molecular pathways and cellular processes relevant to human brain diseases will facilitate progress toward the development of new interventions. To this end, the approach involves integrating expression and molecular profiling data from the human brain with genetic and clinical data to identify candidate genes and pathways with high likelihood of relevance to complex brain disorders.

We strive for impactful science in a collaborative and collegial environment. We consider career development in basic science and translational medicine core to our mission. Our postdoctoral fellows will fully benefit from the deep connections to premier academic labs, hospitals and biotech companies that we have established in the rich Boston biomedical environment. The lab is located in the Building for Transformative Medicine, housing state-of-the-art laboratory and clinical facilities adjacent to Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

Our salary and benefits package will be competitive and commensurate with the cost of living. Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School are Equal Opportunity Employers.

The Patsopoulos Lab is leading large-scale efforts to decipher the genetic component of neurodegenerative and autoimmune diseases and specializes in integrating extensive heterogeneous data to inform personalized decision-making. The group uses in-house and publicly available data for the unbiased identification of key genes and pathways; it also designs avant-garde experimental procedures to create cell-specific and patient-specific response networks. The group collaborates closely with teams in ARCND, the Brigham & Women's Hospital, and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. We are looking for a post-doctoral fellow to join our group and work on large-scale genetics analysis with GWAS and WES/WGS data. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Researches, develops, designs, executes and interprets research experiments. * Contributes to scientific literature, reports, journals and presentations. * Investigates, creates and develops new methods and technologies for research advancement. * Maintains, organizes, and supports computational resources. QUALIFICATIONS: The Fellow is anticipated to receive or has a PhD, MD MD/PhD or equivalent doctorate. The Fellow will receive training, professional development and mentorship during the appointment period. The successful candidate will have recently completed graduate studies in a PhD or MD/PhD program with a strong research and publication record in the biological sciences, evidenced by high-quality research publications. The candidate will have a strong background in statistical genetics, genetic epidemiology, or computer science. Excellent skills in scripting, e.g. bash, Python, and statistical languages, e.g. R, are prerequisite. SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: * Strong research design and analytical skills. * Strong database statistical skills. * In-depth knowledge of field of research. * Excellent time management/organizational skills. * Strong written and verbal presentation skills.
