This position is located at the Auburn University Shellfish Laboratory (AUSL) in Dauphin Island, Alabama. The individual selected for the position will coordinate with the AUSL director and manager to assist with research program coordination, experimental design, statistical analysis, publication and grant proposal writing, hatchery/field production of shellfish, and hatchery/field management of experimental arrays.
This is a limited-term appointment funded from external sources. Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funds.

Essential Functions
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Coordinate with AUSL director, AUSL manager, AU faculty, and graduate students to meet research priorities.
Functions related to research include experimental design, data collection, data analysis, and maintenance of oysters.
Laboratory work may include flow cytometry analysis of ploidy in shellfish; conducting condition index analysis of shellfish; conducting image analysis of shellfish; measuring shell and body metrics of shellfish; PCR analyses; microbial analyses; and experimental system design, installation, and maintenance.
Assist AUSL manager with the hatchery and field production of shellfish for research purposes, broodstock development and genetic line maintenance, and support for the commercial shellfish aquaculture industry.
Coordinate with the AUSL director and manager for development of research proposals, writing of research manuscripts, and presentation of research results at scientific conferences and outreach events.
Coordinate with AUSL Manager for administrative tasks such as permit applications/renewals, leasing of shellfish farm plots, etc.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Level I: Ph.D. in discipline appropriate to position; no experience required.
Level II: Ph.D. in discipline appropriate to position and 2 years of experience in research practices and protocols relevant to the position.
Level III: Ph.D. in discipline appropriate to position and 4 years of experience in research practices and protocols relevant to the position.
Level IV: Ph.D. in discipline appropriate to position and 6 years of experience in research practices and protocols relevant to the position.
A valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to employment is required as well as reliable transportation to the employment site. Must be able to obtain vessel operators designation on driver's license.
Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications
Minimum Skills and Abilities
1.Must be able to swim and be comfortable working in bay and open ocean environments on boats and in the water.
2.Must be able to lift 50 lbs minimum.
3.Ability to operate and maintain shellfish aquaculture equipment including filter systems, mechanical graders, and field grow-out gear.
4.Ability to trailer and operate boats and perform basic maintenance.
Minimum Technology Skills
Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite, smartphones, laptops, and tablet computers.

Desired qualifications include the following:
Experience with shellfish research, aquaculture, and/or restoration.
Knowledge of shellfish aquaculture and basic shellfish hatchery and nursery operations.
Basic knowledge of statistical analysis for scientific research.
Certified to scuba dive or ability to become certified.
