Responsibilities

  • Lead sponsored research projects that align with the missions of TOC, FSU Health, and ISSM.

  • Collaborate with orthopedic physicians, sports medicine specialists, and clinical researchers to conduct innovative research.

  • Initiate and drive research endeavors to improve healthcare outcomes in orthopedic medicine and sports science.

  • Secure external funding to support related research activities to build a small research team and achieve partial salary support by year 5.

  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.

  • Mentor and supervise research assistants, graduate/medical students, and postdoctoral fellows.

  • Participate actively in academic and professional communities, fostering collaborations and partnerships.

  • Strong knowledge of clinical research regulations and supervising research with clinical populations.

  • Contribute to the dissemination of findings to community medical leaders.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant field such as orthopedic medicine, sports medicine, biomechanics, biostatistics, exercise physiology, or related disciplines.

  • Demonstrated expertise in research methodologies, data analysis, and statistical techniques.

  • Proven track record of research productivity, including peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.

  • Experience in securing external funding for research projects is highly desirable.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams.

  • Commitment to advancing knowledge in orthopedic medicine and sports science.

The ISSM Research Scientist position offers a unique opportunity for an accomplished researcher in orthopedic medicine with expertise in sports medicine or managing large data sets. This role is pivotal in spearheading sponsored research initiatives aligned with the mission of the Tallahassee Orthopedic Clinic (TOC), FSU Health, and the Florida State University Institute of Sports Sciences and Medicine (ISSM). The successful candidate will be a part of an exciting collaboration between world-class orthopedic physicians and clinical researchers to advance knowledge in physical function, wellness, and healthy aging through the lens of orthopedic medicine and sports science.

Florida State University Institute of Sports Sciences and Medicine (ISSM):

The ISSM at Florida State University is a leading interdisciplinary research institute dedicated to advancing the science of sports medicine and human performance. It serves as a hub for collaborative research initiatives, bringing together experts from diverse fields to address critical issues in sports science and healthcare.

Tallahassee Orthopedic Clinic (TOC):

TOC is one of the largest and most successful private orthopedic practices in the U.S. with over 270,000 patients served last year alone. Our team now includes over 100 providers caring for patients across nine regional offices throughout North Florida and South Georgia. TOC offers a complete range of orthopedic care, including Ambulatory Surgery Centers, MRI and Imaging Centers, Physical and Occupational Therapy Rehabilitation Centers, Orthotics and Prosthetics, and North Florida's only Orthopedic Urgent Care Centers --- TOC Now. Our specialties include Foot and Ankle, Hand and Upper Extremity, Joint Replacement, Pain Management, Pediatric Orthopedics, Spine, and Trauma. We serve as the Team Physician for Florida State University, Florida A&M University, Tallahassee Community College, and over 40 High Schools across North Florida and South Georgia. In addition to Athletics, TOC is a long-standing Partner of Florida State University in Medical Education and Clinical Research. Over 120 FSU Medical Students have completed rotations with TOC during the last decade, and many clinical research initiatives have been completed together.

Anticipated Salary Range
