We are searching for a research engineer to work on algorithm development, mathematical modeling, and data analysis problems to support a wide range of technologies. In this role, you will work with a small staff of multi-disciplinary engineers to develop advanced software and hardware systems.

Our client is a research and development company that works with clients to build new products and technologies based on state-of-the-art algorithms and software. Products and technologies include robot simulators, autonomous vehicle technologies, tools for forensic labs, and more.

LOCATION
Ann Arbor, MI area

COMPENSATION
Commensurate with experience.

Please note: In some cases, our client elects to engage candidates in a contract-to-hire model. If this applies to you, you would be an employee of Stout Systems for approximately 6 months and then convert to employment with our customer.

EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in engineering, applied mathematics, applied physics, or related field required. Graduate study preferred.

REQUIRED
Minimum 2 years' post-college experience in one of the following:

  • Signal/image processing and video analytics
  • Sensors and sensor processing (lidar, radar, ultrasonics, cameras, GPS receivers, IMUs, etc.)
    Solid practical programming skills in Python, C/C++, MATLAB, or Java. Your programming skills must be adequate to create prototypes.
    Strong grasp of linear algebra, probability, and statistics
    Interest in learning about and applying advanced technology to new problems. A strong intellectual curiosity is the primary personal characteristic required for this role.
    Because this is a client-facing role, you must have strong writing and presentation skills
    Our client works for the U.S. Department of Defense, so you must be a U.S. Citizen.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL
Survey available literature, assess existing state-of-the-art approaches, and adapt methods and algorithms to customer applications
Develop software prototypes in high-level languages and work with software engineers to create and test production code
Support planning and execution of data collection exercises and test events
Analyze data, identify issues, communicate results with staff and customers
Model sensor, communication, and vehicle systems
Prepare written reports and briefings for customers

Lead and participate in multi-disciplinary, collaborative teams and contribute to the development of state-of-the-art remote sensing solutions and surveillance technologies. Relevant sensor types include active/passive radar and electro-optic/infrared imaging systems. Projects will include the development of advanced sensor concepts to exploit new and unique phenomenology, and the associated design and validation activities. Primary responsibilities include: * Conceptualizing, designing, fabricating, testing and demonstrating modular and scalable RF systems and subsystems, from HF through W-Band. * Tasks may involve RF systems analysis and synthesis, RF circuit design and the design of supporting analog and digital electronics, resulting in high-performance prototypes for laboratory and field demonstrations and prospective transition to operational implementations. * Designs may incorporate integrated subassemblies comprised of surface-mount components with strip-line interconnects on printed circuit substrates and/or modules with coaxial interconnects, as appropriate. * Defining requirements and designs in support of end-to-end system performance, including antennas, transmitters and receivers, will be necessary. * Additional tasks include defining software and system interfaces, system integration and testing, and field support to experiments and demonstrations. * Anticipated work products include written reports and preparation and delivery of presentations and project proposals. Occasional travel associated with meetings and/or data collections may be required. Qualifications * Must be enrolled in an accredited university pursing Bachelors or Master's Degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering, Applied Physics, or related field * Experience associated with radar, imaging sensors and signal/data processing applications is highly desirable * Knowledge and facility with standard engineering analysis tools, such as MATLAB is required * Experience with RF circuit design and analysis software is of significant benefit, as is knowledge of EM analysis software in time and/or frequency domains * Successful candidate will demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills including presentations of technical material SRI International Ann Arbor MI
