We're looking for a Research Engineer to join Snap Inc! You'll work with a small group in Snap Inc.'s Research team focused on experimenting and deploying new user experiences.

Responsible for bringing ideas to life, you will be involved through the whole research process, from the design to the launch of a product. Our team develops new user experiences on both emerging and established platforms such as wearables, AR, voice, web, and mobile. Working closely with Research Scientists, you will develop prototypes that turn into scientific publications and transform those prototypes into real products that can impact millions of people every day.

What you'll do:

  • Architect, design, and implement software research prototypes

  • Translate research prototypes into robust, lasting, and scalable products

  • Assist Research Scientists on existing projects and collaborate with them on ideating new ones

  • Iterate and learn new things quickly

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Computer Science or equivalent experience

  • 2+ years of full-stack software engineering experience in industry

  • Significant experience in Python, Java, C# and/or C++

Preferred qualifications:

  • Masters/PhD in a technical field such as Computer Science or equivalent experience

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud and/or AWS

  • Experience with Sketch, Figma and other design tools

  • Hands-on experience and fast prototyping

  • Demonstrated ability to build and ship software

  • A collaborative, positive, and team-oriented mindset

  • Experience building iOS and Android applications

The Department of Genome Sciences (GS) is part of the University of Washington School of Medicine (UW SoM) and is comprised of 27 labs addressing leading edge questions in biology and medicine by developing and applying genetic, genomic and computational approaches taking advantage of genomic information now available for a host of species. GS is making major contributions in the application of genome science to understand the fundamentals of biology and to improve human health and wellbeing. Genome Sciences is a collaborative department supported by very different academic disciplines. We work with a multitude of Program Investigators (PIs) in departments both on the UW campus as well as worldwide. The department has gone through significant expansion since its beginning in 2001 with annual grant awards of $56M in FY19. The Department of Genome Sciences currently has an outstanding opportunity for a RESEARCH SCIENTIST 1, QC. Position Purpose: The Research Scientist will conduct laboratory research focusing on the identification of DNA variation in human populations in a high-throughput genomics laboratory in the Department of Genome Sciences. This position will requires expertise in molecular biology and genomics protocols and the ability to perform research and take responsibility for assuring quality, cost effectiveness and timeliness for large projects. The Research Scientist will work under immediate supervision to meet project deadlines and complete assigned tasks by implementing well-established protocols and evaluating and developing new protocols. Weekly meetings are held to discuss project status. Responsibilities: Carry out laboratory protocols for sample receipt and Quality Control (QC) on various platforms Perform standard molecular biology protocols Works with laboratory information systems (LIMS) to log workflow data. Develop and maintain precise laboratory protocols and records. Work within a laboratory team environment to process and track DNA and RNA samples. Implement quality-assurance protocols. Perform routine assessment of data quality. Assist with trouble-shooting and daily quality control of data. Attend Genome Sciences and University meetings, retreats, status updates, orientations and planning days when necessary. Other tasks as needed Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Genetics/Biochemistry, Chemical or Biomedical Engineering, or other related Life Sciences field. 0 - 3 months related experience in a professional or academic laboratory setting. Working knowledge of molecular biology, genetics, and/or chemistry Experience with liquid handling systems, specifically, Perkin Elmer systems Excellent technical skills at the bench Excellent recording keeping Strong analytical and problem solving skills Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills Must be highly organized with a strong attention to detail Open to receiving direction and to asking for assistance when needed Ability to work both independently and collaboratively Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
