This position will be based on one-year term which will be renewable based on performance and abilities to secure and support externally funded research.
The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering is seeking a Research Engineer to work for the Department of Mechanical Engineering. A Research Engineer conducts research in various fields of engineering to design and develop technology and to carry out investigations, evaluation, and application of engineering theories and principles.

Essential Functions
Develops and manages specifications and plans in specific areas of mechanical engineering research and production programs. Communicates and collaborates with employees, department heads, upper administration, other institutions, businesses, and consultants to conduct advanced research.
Oversees records, maintains data related to mechanical engineering research activities, and disseminates data to appropriate people. Performs research data analysis and report writing.
Maintains financial resources of research programs to include budget and financial reports. Ensures budget controls, assessments, projections, expenditures, and modifications are maintained and accurate.
Directs and coordinates assigned labor force involved in mechanical engineering research and production programs to include training, developing work schedules, and completing personnel forms. Oversees and develops SOPs for safety training.
Forecasts resource requirements and oversees the receipt, storage, and care of material and equipment to complete mechanical engineering research and production areas.
Supervises the maintenance and repair of physical facilities and equipment associated within specific mechanical engineering research and production areas.
Oversees, develops and maintains institutional protocol requirements for research and production programs. Ensures programs comply with University, state, and federal regulations.
Provides technical consultation, administrative and facilities coordination, and assistance for mechanical engineering research programs and facilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Must be a US citizen or ability to get a DoD clearance.
Education and Experience:
Degree in Engineering that is relevant to the area of research.
Level I: B.S. in Engineering and no experience.
Level II: B.S. in Engineering plus 2 years professional experience. Experience must include at least 2 years at the preceding level or equivalent.
Level III: B.S. in Engineering plus 4 years professional experience. Experience must include at least 2 years at the preceding level or equivalent.
Substitutions allowed for Education:
When a candidate has the required experience, but lacks the required education, they may normally apply additional relevant experience toward the education requirement, at a rate of two (2) years relevant experience per year of required education.
Substitutions allowed for Experience:
When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
