Position Description

Job Summary

CertainTeed is committed to being the leader in light and sustainable construction. We are looking for a driven, talented, and energetic entry-level engineer to join our gypsum team in conducting hands-on laboratory experiments for the improvement of our value-added product. The candidate will, under the supervision of the manager, utilize basic scientific principles and techniques to undertake specific tasks and projects with limited scope. The incumbent will document their work carefully and thoroughly. The candidate will demonstrate an open and collaborative approach in all areas of responsibility. Good written and oral communication skills are required.

In addition, the incumbent may be asked to carry out laboratory testing for other Research Engineers with the approval and supervision of their manager. The candidate may supervise the work of Research Technicians or coop as assigned.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Ability to work in a laboratory environment, building relationships and establishing support to execute projects in a cross-functional environment.

• Completes tasks as assigned by the manager in areas of product testing, process improvement, and analytical and characterization tools.

• Ensures all products are tested and approved according to the company SOP

• Performs research and a variety of experiments, makes detailed observations, analyzes data, and interprets results.

• Creates concise and technically accurate summary reports of their work.

• Realize and contribute to the cost savings opportunities for the business.

• Identifies opportunities that could impact sustainability with innovative solutions and works with R&D, operations, and technical teams to develop and deploy.

• Understand material properties that are critical to quality attributes.

• Continuously evaluates workplace for safety concerns and ensures behavioral safety initiatives are performed to goal levels.

• Plays an active role in lab management: safety aspects, equipment maintenance, 5S, lab audit preparation and action follow-up, lab postings, regular equipment checks, etc.

• Demonstrates an open and collaborative approach in all areas of responsibility.

Required Qualifications

• BS Degree in Chemistry, Material Science, or other scientific disciplines.

• Co-op or intern experience a plus

• Should possess a basic understanding of statistical tools, data analysis, and drawing conclusions based on a collection of basic data and interpretation.

• Demonstrated basic knowledge of HSE.

• Applicants should be comfortable with the use of power tools and basic machinery.

• Travel required up to 10% to execute/support projects and learn manufacturing processes
