Cobham is seeking a Research Engineer to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This position is located in Orchard Park, NY.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gain familiarity with existing hardware and provide sustaining engineering support to the manufacturing personnel

  • Investigate and disposition Material Discrepancy Reports (MDRs) through drawing review, vendor communication and interaction with the cross-functional team

  • Participate in the internal Design For Six Sigma (DFSS) training class and apply the concepts learned to everyday engineering activities

  • Using input from the cross functional team, propose design changes that will improve the manufacturability, performance, and/or cost of existing production hardware

  • Participate in failure investigations and recommend/implement corrective actions

  • Perform complex engineering tasks under own supervision

  • Responsible for ensuring that appropriate Safety, Health and Environment (S/H/E) concepts are applied consistently to teach project in accordance with Cobham guidelines

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's of Science Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Aeronautical Engineering

  • 12 years' of related experience

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by export laws of the US. In order to be eligible you must be either a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with SolidWorks 3D CAD a plus

  • Ability to work and communicate within a team environment

  • Attention to detail, organizational and multi-tasking skills

  • Ability to act as site-wide Subject Matter Expert/Consultant

This position is located in Orchard Park, NY. Key Responsibilities: * Designs, develops and analyses mechanical structures, systems & equipment. * Engineers who demonstrated and deploy an advanced level of technical knowledge and subject matter expertise within their discipline domain to the design, development and delivery new products processes and technologies. * This profile is representative of those who are Senior or Principle Engineers. * They will apply this expertise to deliver real business benefit to Cobham. * The Technical Specialist will typically be part of an Integrated Product Team (IPT) and will contribute to the performance of the IPT to ensure that the performance expectations are met or exceeded. * The Engineering Team Member shall serve as a subject matter expert within the team, ensuring the application of the appropriate discipline processes, practices and tools to ensure that responsibilities are completed to meet the required technical and quality requirements. * Providing advanced technical expertise to projects and product developments. * Aligning technical solutions to organizational objectives to ensure the optimum business benefit. * Application of advanced discipline domain knowledge to the design, development and delivery of new products, processes and technologies on time, within budget and with required quality. * Continued professional development of discipline competence and expertise to ensure own capability is leading edge. * Support the technical development of other members of the Engineering department through guidance, knowledge sharing etc. * Application of, and compliance with, engineering processes and practices including the engineering framework, LCM and regulatory requirements Identification of opportunities for improvement in discipline processes, practices and tools Collaboration with IPT members to address project requirements Collaboration with discipline peers within the BU and across the enterprise to share and learn best practice. * Propose new technologies, materials and processes to maintain and grow our technology differentiations. * Propose and develop new products Contribute to business winning technical proposals. * Some senior engineers may take on informal leadership positions within small teams / groups, prior to undertaking full managerial roles. * There is no formal management relationship (PDR etc.) and the role is "first among equals" but may have day to day responsibility for output, development, task assignment etc. * This is generally an opportunity for a developing engineer with management aspirations to gain their first leadership experience. * Applies extensive expertise to a wide range of complex problems requiring innovative solutions. * May lead large projects or Category 2 Programs as and IPT Technical Lead. * Works with functional management and customers in addressing significant technical issues. * Acts as a consultant and mentor or other engineers. * Collaborates with technical colleagues outside of the business unit as needed. * Reviews literature, patents and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects. Minimum Requirements: * BSME or BSAE from an ABET accredited university. * Minimum 8 years of experience in the design and development of multistage, high-pressure compressors, and peripherals. * This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by export laws of the US. In order to be eligible you must be either a US Citizen or Permanent Resident. Preferred Qualifications: * 10 years' experience as above. * Experience with pneumatic systems exceeding 5KPSI. * Experienced in reciprocating compressors of the swash-plate style. * Experience with coalescers and driers and the ability to integrate a compressor sub system into a higher level application. * Familiarity with motor and gearbox design, familiarity with electronic controls, familiarity with military specifications and program.
