Who's qualified to apply?

YOU, if you're pursuing a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D degree in Food Science or Engineering (primarily Chemical / Food Process / Packaging / Industrial / Material Science) and have a strong academic record typically a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Job Title: Sr. Research and Development Scientist Job Location: 9000 Plymouth Avenue North, Minneapolis, MN 55427; Some travel (up to 25%) may be required to work on projects at various, unanticipated sites throughout the United States. Job Type: Full-Time General Mills, Inc. has an opening for a Sr. Research and Development Scientist in Minneapolis, MN. Duties: Be actively involved in new product strategy, concept development, product formulation, and process development for the consumer food industry for numerous products and business unit initiatives. Develop great tasting consumer food products that deliver on consumer expectations and concept functionality through consumer testing. Ensure that developed products meet shelf life requirements in specified storage conditions. Design products that meet targeted delivered profit margins to ensure product sustainability. Determine product specifications and tests that ensure product safety and continued product quality. Work on items for brand expansion. Work on refrigerated baked goods projects including cookies, canned dough, pie, and fats & oils innovation and line extensions for division specific needs, including cost-savings efforts strategy. Serve as a technical expert and mentor to junior team members to ensure technical excellence and successful completion of projects led by others. Work on scaling up benchtop or pilot plant formulations to production sites. Perform food processing research. Design and execute experiments to determine the effect of food ingredients and processing conditions on the attributes of a food product. Work with food product shelf life/quality testing, management, and extension. Analyze sensory analysis data to improve the design of food products or interpret consumers' needs regarding a food product. Explore new technologies to enhance the quality of food and optimize cost efficiency in food product manufacturing. Some travel (up to 25%) may be required to work on projects at various, unanticipated sites throughout the United States. Requirements: Employer will accept Doctor of Philosophy degree in Food Science, or related field and three years of work experience in job offered or three years of work experience in a consumer food product or process development-related occupation. Position requires: 1 year of experience in cross-functional (internal and external) collaboration in the food industry, to drive successful project and strategy execution in a highly dynamic and multicultural environment; 1 year of experience proposing, planning and driving execution of experiments related to animal protein extraction and functionality; 1 year of experience in food quality and operations within a manufacturing facility; and, Experience conducting characterization and oxidative stability evaluation of edible oils and experimentation on their stability in foods products. Experience can be gained through academic coursework and/or work experience. Some travel (up to 25%) may be required to work on projects at various, unanticipated sites throughout the United States.
