Serve as the Research Development Engineer supporting the Local Road Research Board (LRRB) and its Research Implementation Committee (RIC) activities. This position will:
Identify and develop research and implementation projects that meet city, county and state needs;
Manage LRRB programs/projects;
Provide engineering expertise and support to internal and external customers to develop project need statements, scope work plans, and contracts;
Provide project oversight and coordination on state and local research projects;
Identify and document implementation and technology transfer opportunities and potential benefits;
Quantify benefits of completed research projects;
Manage consultant and university contracts; and
Provide technical and administrative assistance within Research Services to support federal, state and local research programs.
This position requires active engagement and discussions with local transport practitioners, including city and county engineers, and industry representatives.
Both in-state and out of state travel is required, including overnight stays. Site visits are also required which may include the need to transport equipment, meeting materials, move throughout rough and uneven terrain and other site hazards.
Licensure as a professional civil engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID) or ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity. (If obtaining licensure through reciprocity, a practice pending letter from AELSLAGID must be provided to MnDOT HR prior to starting employment).
Experience conducting research on a variety of transportation topics.
Experience in project management.
Written and oral communication skills sufficient to conduct meetings, provide guidance to other staff, prepare summaries and share technical information with others.
Human relation skills sufficient to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, peers, governing boards and other partners.
