ABB is seeking a Research & Development Design Engineer for its Lake Mary, Florida location. This role is responsible for the design and development of ANSI Medium Voltage Switchgear with respect to market requirements and based on relevant ANSI- IEEE standards. Coordination of activities with associated components which are being used in switchgear is essential.
Professionals ( > 2 years of work experience)
Typical duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Develop new designs, cost reductions, and design modifications that will assure product and technology leadership in accordance with the company's strategic plan.
Interface with Product Managers, Project Managers and R&D Engineers during product development and enhancement process to ensure that customer feedback and concerns are addressed in the design.
Prepare project level and product documentation based on the requirements.
Document product robustness using simulations, analysis and testing methods.
Evaluate test plans and test results.
Prepare and maintain product documentation, instruction manuals, project notebooks, and design and test documentation.
Arrange design reviews, analyze concepts and cost effectiveness of the hardware designs.
Coordinate engineering activities with purchasing and manufacturing. Assist Purchasing on supplier selection and component evaluation.
Write papers, participate in technical meetings, seminars, and conferences.
Protect inventions following ABB intellectual property guidelines.
Ensure that development documentation protocols and procedures are followed in accordance with established QA process and ISO 9001.
Prepare and maintain product cost estimates and project plans.
May require some travel (domestic as well as international).
Masters of science in Mechanical Engineering and 5 Years of experience in design and testing.
Experience in ANSI / IEC Switchgear/ MCC Design and testing
Experience in development tests and type testing of the products
Experience in simulations for dielectric, static or dynamic forces is desirable.
Knowledge of circuit breaker design, instrument transformer & operation principles of protection in electrical power systems is desirable.
Knowledge of US patent process is desirable.
Strong background in Mechanical Design.
ANSI Switchgear standards knowledge.
Type Testing knowledge at independent labs.
Solid works or equivalent 3D software experience.
Excellent oral, writing and documentation skills.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Technical leadership ability.
Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
Candidates currently residing in USA that do not require sponsorship to work in USA.
Willing to relocate to Lake Mary, FL.
