The Research Data Supervisor I (RDS I) is responsible for the planning and implementation of analytics projects, development of visually compelling and informative reports and dashboards, and ongoing assessment of stakeholder needs and interests in data products. As a working supervisor, the RDS I provides leadership, guidance, and direction to team members and participates in operational activities to achieve unit goals and objectives.

This position is eligible to participate in DDS' hybrid telework schedule. Participation in telework is subject to DDS' guidelines.

Working Conditions

Onsite work is performed in an open-spaced, partitioned office environment. The office is located in a multi-story building in downtown Sacramento. Work requires the use of a personal computer 65-85% of time. Occasional daytime and overnight statewide travel

may be required.

Department Information

The California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is the agency through which the State of California provides services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities.

These disabilities include intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism and related conditions. Services are provided through state-operated developmental centers and community facilities, and contracts with 21 nonprofit regional centers. The regional centers serve as a local resource to help find and access the services and supports available to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

The DDS is located in a modern, sustainable and innovative office building at 1215 "O" Street, Sacramento, California. Some amenities of the building include:

  • First floor retail space (separate access from 12th Street)

  • Café with multiple vendors

  • Outdoor seating for meal breaks

  • Employee fitness center which includes a yoga studio, cardio equipment and weights

  • Plaza area with kitchenette on each floor

Special Requirements

The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) must be numbered in the same order as the following areas, typed in 12-point Arial font, single spaced, and be no more than three pages in length. Applicants who fail to answer the questions or submit an SOQ may not be considered.

  • Please describe your experience in leading a team of data analysts? Please provide one example of a project you lead, a key leadership challenge, and how you addressed that challenge.

  • Please describe your experience and level of proficiency in using Structured Query Language, Python, SAS, and PowerBI. Give examples of how you've used each tool.

  • The person selected for this position must stay current with emerging trends and technologies. Describe how you keep your skills and knowledge current and describe a situation where you applied new methodologies or techniques in your current or previous role(s).
