Job Description and Duties

RDA II:

Under the general supervision of the Deputy Director, the Research Data Analyst II will perform independent, responsible, varied, and complex research and data analysis of market trends and consumer behavior. The incumbent is responsible for conducting research, reporting, and providing data analytics related to policies for the Department of Cannabis Control's (Department) Policy and Research Division.

RDA I:

Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director, the Research Data Analyst I will perform basic research, data gathering and analysis of market trends and consumer behavior, and statistical work utilizing structured and unstructured data from existing reports and resources. Responsible for preparing reports and providing data analytics related to policies and procedures for the Deputy Director's Office, Department of Cannabis Control's (Department) Policy and Research Division.

This position is eligible for telework up to 4 days per week.

Special Requirements

Conflict of Interest (COI): This position is subject to Title 16, section 3830 of the California Code of Regulations, the Department of Consumer Affairs' Conflict of Interest Regulations. The incumbent is required to submit a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) within 30 days of assuming office, annually by April 1st and within 30 days of leaving office.

2.Describe your experience working with report writing or data visualization software. Include the type of products you have used (i.e. SAP, Tableau, SAS, Google Looker, IBM Cognos, PowerBI, etc.)

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

The candidate should have:

  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.

  • Understanding of statistical analysis techniques and principles.

  • Experience analyzing large data sets.

We would like the candidate to have:

  • Experience with cannabis industry data or business practices.

  • Experience using reporting or data warehouse software (e.g.: MS SQL, Oracle, etc.)

  • Experience using business intelligence reporting software (e.g.: Tableau, SAS, PowerBI, Google Looker, etc.)
