Job Description and Duties

Under direction of the Research Data Supervisor I, in the Economic Analysis Unit within the Administrative, Fiscal and Information Technology Services Division (AFITS), the incumbent performs research, data gathering and complex analyses for the Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) related to CalRecycle's Funds and Regulations. Work includes but is not limited to:

  • Conducting research, statistical analyses, and targeted studies applying the principles and concepts of economics.

  • Developing and using effective data collection and survey methods, analytical techniques, & computer models.

  • Evaluating economic methods, analyses, research & results from other CalRecycle staff, other agencies and/or contractors.

  • Applying economic principles/concepts to evaluate the costs, savings, net costs, cost effectiveness, cost/benefit ratios, and/or the economic impacts (geographically and temporally) of proposed regulations, CalRecycle Funds, potential programs and other initiatives & making recommendations on the best choices and best implementation mechanisms given the alternatives.

  • Analyzing results to identify trends, to produce estimates, extrapolations, forecasts, & to discover significant findings.

  • Providing expert consultative services on economics to management & making high-level policy recommendations.

  • Preparing & presenting written reports, memoranda, presentations, informational workshops, conference proceedings, technical magazine articles, websites, databases, models and other products to effectively gather and/or convey information on economic research needs and results.

  • Identifying, developing, and continually improving economic analysis standards, methods, and data sources.

This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position's designated headquarters location, as indicated on their duty statement, at their own expense.
