GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

Under supervision, and within established departmental and hospital policies and procedures, is responsible for participating in the design and analysis of clinical research within the Translational Neuroimmunology Research Center (TNRC) in the Ann Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases (ARNCD). The data analyst is to help clinical researchers acquire, manipulate, and analyze data as well as report the results.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meet with clinical investigators to identify research questions and testable hypotheses.

  • Write SQL queries to obtain data from an Oracle relational database.

  • Assist in database maintenance by creating new tables and views as needed.

  • Assess data quality and perform data cleaning as needed.

  • Create variables required for analyses using existing data fields.

  • Perform group comparisons using t-tests, chi-squared tests, and log-rank tests.

  • Estimate group differences adjusting for other variables using linear regression, logistic regression and Cox proportional hazards regression.

  • Program in at least one statistical software package (SAS, Stata or R).

  • Create reports and graphs of results for clinical investigators.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with SAS, Stata or R.

  • Experience with REDCap.

  • Experience with writing queries in SQL.

  • Master's in epidemiology, biostatistics or a related field.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Excel and Access.

  • Bachelor's or master's degree, preferable in Information Management, Healthcare Information, Computing, Mathematics, Statistics or related fields.

  • Proficiency with statistics/biostatistics.

Office space environment and occasional clinical center exposure.

VIEW JOBS 11/15/2019 12:00:00 AM 2020-02-13T00:00 GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT: The Medical Assistant is responsible for supporting research programs and clinical care at the Partners Multiple Sclerosis Center. Research responsibilities include performing phlebotomy, processing blood samples (centrifuge), collecting and processing urine samples, proper packaging of samples for transport, and maintaining inventory. Additionally, the Medical Assistant is responsible for supporting patient care including, obtaining vital signs, medication reconciliation, scheduling and confirming appointments, managing work queues and in-basket folders in Epic, obtaining prior-authorization, coordinating appeals, and processing prescription refills. Must be a team-player and follow instructions. The MA may be required to perform other tasks as needed or requested by the Practice Manager, Research Director and/or Senior practice assistant. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Demonstrates the skills and competence to perform/prepare patients for venipuncture/stick. * Maintains the blood drawing area clean and organized. * Routinely inspects tubes and other supplies for expiration dates and discards as appropriate. * Follows all Infection Control Guidelines throughout the venipuncture/stick procedure. * Follow Hospital Hand Hygiene policy between all procedures and patients. * Completes phlebotomy check sheets, logbooks and other documentation as required. * Uses centrifuge to spin samples. Aliquots samples as required per protocol. * Retrieves orders from EPIC and obtains clinic blood samples as ordered. * Completes IATA training for dangerous goods transport. * Packages samples using ice or dry ice as appropriate per protocol. * Maintains and stocks inventory. * Accurately and efficiently schedules patient appointments and confirms appointments. * Orders research, medical and office supplies. * Measures height and weight and obtains vital signs as appropriate. * Demonstrates professional behavior and customer service skills at all times. * Effectively interacts with management, co-workers and clinical staff to avoid misunderstandings and conflicts. * Effectively interacts with patients and patients' families to avoid stress and anxiety. * Communicates in a professional and effective manner at all times. * Responsible to be aware of Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals and to comply with BWH Hospital and Laboratory polices and procedures. * Performs all other duties as asked and/or directed by the Practice Manager, Research Director and/or Senior Practice Assistant. QUALIFICATIONS: * Must have high School diploma or equivalent. * Must be a certified medical assistant. * Must have phlebotomy experience. * Some College or Associate Degree required. * Bachelor's Degree preferred. * Experience in hospital setting required. SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: * Must demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills. * Must be organized, able to multitask and able to adapt to changing demands. * Must be able to work effectively and collaboratively with management, physicians, nurses, research staff, and others. * Must maintain annual competencies related to practice protocols. * Must attend mandatory annual in-services. * Must understand the overall goals and systems of research and clinical practice.
