GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

Under supervision, and within established departmental and hospital policies and procedures, is responsible for participating in the design and analysis of clinical research within the Translational Neuroimmunology Research Center (TNRC) in the Ann Romney Center for Neurologic Diseases (ARNCD). The data analyst is to help clinical researchers acquire, manipulate, and analyze data as well as report the results.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meet with clinical investigators to identify research questions and testable hypotheses.

  • Write SQL queries to obtain data from an Oracle relational database.

  • Assist in database maintenance by creating new tables and views as needed.

  • Assess data quality and perform data cleaning as needed.

  • Create variables required for analyses using existing data fields.

  • Perform group comparisons using t-tests, chi-squared tests, and log-rank tests.

  • Estimate group differences adjusting for other variables using linear regression, logistic regression and Cox proportional hazards regression.

  • Program in at least one statistical software package (SAS, Stata or R).

  • Create reports and graphs of results for clinical investigators.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency with SAS, Stata or R.

  • Experience with REDCap.

  • Experience with writing queries in SQL.

  • Master's in epidemiology, biostatistics or a related field.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Excel and Access.

  • Bachelor's or master's degree, preferable in Information Management, Healthcare Information, Computing, Mathematics, Statistics or related fields.

  • Proficiency with statistics/biostatistics.

Office space environment and occasional clinical center exposure.

Ariadne Labs currently has research programs in the areas of childbirth, surgery, palliative care, and primary health care. The Primary Health Care (PHC) Program at Ariadne Labs is a portfolio of multiple interconnected projects, including the PHC Performance Initiative (PHCPI) which aims to catalyze improvement in PHC in low and middle-income countries through more and better measurement, country engagement and effective knowledge management. In addition, the PHC team collaborates with country partners in Estonia, India, and Costa Rica, among others, to assess country and state-level primary health care systems and design and implement improvement strategies. The PHC portfolio is expanding rapidly, with active work in multiple countries, and deepening relationships with collaborating partners around the globe and throughout the United States. The Research Assistant I will support two related workstreams within the PHCPI project focused on developing and testing novel metrics of PHC and refining and implementing the PHC Progression Model to measure PHC system capacity. The Research Assistant I will primarily be responsible for literature reviews and key-informant interviews to inform product development, supporting the development of survey design and fielding, and supporting data analysis and writing of various reports and publications. The Research Assistant I will report to the PHC Technical Lead for Research & Development and also work closely with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, analysts, and program managers. Primary Duties and Responsibilities * Conduct literature searches and key-informant interviews to identify and document the current state of measurement across various PHC topics. * Synthesize findings to inform the development of novel survey tools. * Develop data collector training materials and support the delivery of trainings. * Support the adaptation and translation of various PHC team products, including assessment tools and guides. * Assist in quantitative and qualitative data analysis, interpretation and presentation of results. * Participate in dissemination work including scientific writing of manuscripts, reports, abstract and development of project-related presentations, including the possibility of co-authorship on scientific papers * Assist the team with administrative tasks including scheduling, taking minutes, grant writing and other activities as identified * Assists in the development and adaptation of project plans, timelines, and deliverables * Support applications for ethical approvals including research protocol, study instruments and modifications * Support the development and preparation of grant proposals and templates * Provide other support to PHC projects as identified by team leadership. Required Skills * Microsoft Office Suite * Familiarity with the Google information environment is valuable (e.g. Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Drive, etc.) * Strong written and verbal communication * Strong scientific writing skills * Ability to effectively present ideas and information in a variety of formats to a wide range of audiences, including senior leaders and senior clinicians * Exposure to quantitative and qualitative data analysis principles * Positive, flexible, professional, and a can-do attitude * Ability to work both independently and on a team * Ability to prioritize issues and use sound judgment to recognize when additional consultation and/or help is needed * Comfortable working on multiple projects at one time Qualifications * BA/BS required, preferably in a related field of research study * 0-2 years of related experience * Experience working in a matrix organization/environment preferred * Experience with literature searches and/or scientific writing * Prior experience with manuscript and/or grant writing and preparation * Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative methods * Strong critical appraisal skills, quantitative skills, effective communication, and exceptional organizational skills are essential Preferred Qualifications * Interest in health systems research focused on improving care and reducing suffering * Exposure to applicable computer technologies, including specific software applications such as SAS, STATA, and/or qualitative research software * International work experience preferred Partners Healthcare System Boston MA
